    I call MUD.

I was calling MUD originally, but I clicked on her profile and she is spreading self-righteousness and ignorance all over TB and has been for awhile :(

    You can't fake that grammar.

  • I really hope this is MUD, but unfortunately, it may not be.  If it's not, then to the OP:

You are an ignorant, uneducated moron.  I worry about the health and well being of your child.  It's people like you who should stay on birth control.  Please do not have any more children after this one.  I don't care if this is horribly harsh.

Ditto all this.  3-5 oz of a glucose drink will not give you diabetes.  Undiagnosed GD will cause major problems (including type 2 diabetes and possible fetal death).  Ask your dr. It's not a conspiracy- drs. really are looking out for your best interests.

    agreed.

op- sugar doesnt cause diabetes at all. obesity is a risk factor, so if you eat too much of anything and become obese, then you are at a greater risk. It is all about your genes though. which is why very active skinny people can still get type 2 and gd. type 1 is autoimmune, so diet/weight has nothing to do with it.

ignorance is not an excuse for harming your baby.

Im hoping this is just some more MUD. Tongue Tied

It has to be, right? Convincing myself of this is the only way I can walk away.

  • Loving the logic. It must be BECAUSE I took the test, that I have GD. Wish I had known sooner!! Hmm

If I had ignored the fact that I have GD, my baby's life would be at risk. Live with that. Placenta/hormones are total influencing factors to GD. Not eating habits. Grow up.

  • My mother had gestational diabetes when she was pregnant with me, and from what I know it wasn't kept under control as it should have been.  Throughout pregnancy my body produced insulin for my body and her body, so when I was born my insulin was weigh too high. My blood sugar dropped to 5 and I was in critical care for a few days and weighed almost 9 pounds, mostly from fluid.

It is very important that your doctor knows whether or not you have gestational diabetes so they can monitor you and your baby's growth and well being.  Gestational diabetes does not JUST make a big baby.  There are other health risks involved.  And one sugary gross tasting drink, is not going to harm you.  Plus it is made by medical professionals and scientists.  I don't think there are carcinogens or anything in it.  Doctors require these tests for a reason, and your baby needs you to do what is best for him/her.

  • I feel the exact same way about health and that glucose drink... but I did it. It was horrible, discusting, took me 1/2hr to down the whole thing and almost threw up twice. However, it is good peace of mind knowing I don't have GD.

  • I really think this is mud, but on the off chance that it is not, please go and take the test. I was one of those ladies who had undiagnosed GD ( I passed the 3 hour, and didn't gain a bunch of weight), and my DD was born with complications that we did not know about until after she born when her blood sugar was through the roof, and so was mine. She ended up having to stay in the NICU, getting insulin shots to bring her blood sugar down. It wasn't until she was 5 months old when we discovered that she basically had no immune system when she nearly died from bacterial Meningitis. Her immune problem was caused by my undianosed GD, and it nearly cost my DD her life. Infact the dr's think that her life was saved because she was born at 37 wks, and not 40 wks.

I know our stories are very different because I chose to take the tests, and you chose to skip out, but you need to get the hell over yourself, and do the damn test for your child.

  • You are SERIOUSLY putting your selfishness before the safety of your child? Way to go MOM....
  • Wow, OP, you're a treasure. Really.

I had insulin dependent GD when I was pregnant. I was diagnosed at 12 weeks. (No, I wasn't diabetic before nor am I now)

I had to do finger pricks 4 times a day or more. I had to inject myself 5 times a day. Was it fun? No. Did I do it? Heck yes!

Why? Cause I'm not a selfish b!tch and I wanted healthy babies. And they are. I took care of myself and they are amazingly healthy, beautiful boys.

OP, you really piss me off. Damn, you're dumb.

prob shldnt have done that but it just seems too weird. im not drinking some sugary drink thats prob gonna give me diabetes from drinking it. and how am i suppose to know whats in it?? im very careful about what i eat and drink and i have a good idea they wont tell me the ingredients.  lol...my grandma is a retired nurse so imma ask her about it. most likely ill reschedule but i dont like sweets. i dont even drink koolaid! yuck!

They would tell you what is in it I'm sure, you didn't ask? It seems a little irresponsible to turn down a procedure without first asking for more information about it. That being said, I asked for an alternative testing method and was provided a substitute that contained the same glucose amounts as the testing liquid that most practitioners use. You can find out if they will accept an alternative. It is important that you find out if you are at risk for any more complications that GD is related to and the discomfort of this test is nothing compared to something going wrong during labor or late pregnancy. find out your options and get tested.

  • I am dying at asking retired gma. I totally doubt anything has changed since the 70's.  She should be spot on with knowing what is in a GLUCOSE drink.  This is the one time I guarantee Dr. Google would be better.

Good for you!  Whatever did you *do* with that whole hour to yourself?!  Yup, nurses can just look at you and *tell* if you have GD or not, they don't even look at test results.

  • You know that you can just ask to drink welch's grape juice instead....or is that the devil's necter as well? Plus the amount of the glucose drink you have to drink is so small...like one of those plastic cups that come with a water cooler in an office. It won't kill you.

Wow! It's D50 in liquid form... 50 percent Dextrose with some flavoring to make it tolerable. Can I just tell you a story about gestational diabetes? I know someone that negligently skipped out on the test, had GD, didn't know it and/or refused to believe it and gave birth to a stillborn. Think about that the next time you're "cautious" about what you put in your body. Ask for an IV then and have them squeeze D50 into your veins... Now that's NOT pleasant.

    Not quite... but okay.

  • I'm not sure where people get off thinking they should procreate, but some just shouldn't.

Look up Glucola.  This is actually the one I had.  Then, I had to drink the 100g version and test for 4 hours.  That was before they told me I had..... wait for it.... gestational diabetes.

It's a prescription only item.  It's regulated.  They can't hide the ingredients.  Genius.

    For the WIN!

Seriously...what are you, 16? Obviously not intelligent enough to be having a baby regardless. Put yourself and your baby in danger because you are ignorant...perfect!

  • Is this post for real?  GD can be very serious to the baby, if you want to know whats in the drink just ask the Dr. more questions.
    You sound ridiculous.
  • Don't know if anyone else has called her out on this, but it's annoying me that she hasn't responded.  70+ posts require a response, darn it!

  • If I were you I'd just skip it all from here on out, especially the labor part.  That bish hurts like a mothertrucker.
  • I just had a bunch of tequila shots before driving myself to the doctor's office for the test. The glucose drink was pretty much just like doing a woo-woo chaser by then. Bottoms up!
