Advice from Third Tri

Hello All!

I'm a FTM here, so I can't offer much advice when it comes to little ones. But if there was one piece of advice I wish someone had given me when I first got my BFP it would have been this - never schedule Dr. appointments on a Monday. Why? Because that's the day that all the people who had issues/scares over the weekend have to get squeezed into the Dr's schedule. And since they had issues, that means they're going to take more than the 15 minutes allotted for regular checkups. And that means you'll be waiting. And waiting. And an hour will go by and you'll wonder if you got skipped, and maybe you did. Do yourself a favor and book your appointments any other day of the week.

Same is true for the pediatrician!!!

Fridays can also be bad because you get the moms (and parents) who want to get something checked out before the weekend.

Arg. I have an appointment scheduled for this Monday, in the afternoon no less. I'm sure they'll be lots of waiting. I'll bring my Kindle. Smile

This is pretty untrue for my OBs office. Monday is quiet b/c they don't answer the phone until 9 am and there's no way you're getting in before noon if you call at 9 am. Monday mornings are probably the quietest. I've actually never found any rhyme or reason to how busy they are or aren't.

I think that's great, practical advice. Thanks! My mom gets bumped from her doc appointments all the time from babies being born, but in my 16 years seeing an OB/GYN, I never have.

Don't worry, it's not something I plan to make a habit of, take it or leave it. It's just the one thing I wish someone had mentioned to me, given how many appointments you have over the average pregnancy. Some people don't mind waiting an hour + for an appointment, I just don't happen to be one of them.

I especially love when they throw in what board they're from like because they currently hail from 3rd tri we should be in awe of their amazing gift of knowledge.

remind me not to "revisit" the first trimester board when I am in my third(tirmester). I think I will keep my advice to myself. Sometimes (although it was a good point) you have to let people learn on their own! Glad i'm going into the second tri. soon, ladies are starting to loose those filters! LOL! Tongue Tied

I don't know, I was just in for my 12 week check-up yesterday and the Dr. was 45 minutes late. The later in the day the appointment, the further behind they get.

I am on the bump all for the reason of giving/getting support and learning some helpful info along the way, please don't let the grouchy few from above stop you from doing what you just thought was helpful and useful.

There are second (and third, and fourth) time mothers here. It's kind of strange hearing general advice from someone when you've done it all before. For most of these kinds of post (not necessarily this one), I end up shaking my head and saying to myself "Honey, you have no idea."

I do think that it s helpful when someone gives u a heads up on something that can be useful to u in the future. There s no need to get judgemental about someone offering some knowledge. I mean, she wasn't being rude or specifically saying it one person. Just let it be.

I most definitely am not freaked out about anything, I just felt she was trying to do something nice and that's all. I wanted to simply thank her and let her know that although not everybody seemed to appreciate the advice I found it helpful.

DD decided that she's Lenny, I'm Tuck, and Daddy is Ming-Ming. The baby is Ollie the bunny, apparently. For about 3 months she would make us sing the theme song with her- we had to get our cues right or we would have to start over again. That's one phase I'm kind of glad has passed.

I would rather read a thousand pices of advice like this than hear one more question about cheese, fish, lunch meat or that hardboiled egg that was perhaps not has hardboiled as you would have liked.

I'm going to throw my advice in here, too. (if you don't care for it...just move to the next thread... Big Smile )

I worked in an internal med/family practice office for almost 4 years and the best time to be seen is first in the morning or the appt right after lunch. Right before lunch or the end of the day is when we would be most behind and have people waiting.

That was true for my last OB I had. Sometimes I would see the dr. right away, other times I had to wait hours. I don't have a set dr. at my new OB's office, but I've never had to wait long at all, thankfully.
