So I was trying a new cleaning service out today.
And I had to fight with the chick about what to clean - she had the audacity to tell me that the living room was not considered a 'living space' .... um? since when? She told me that she already cleaned a 'living space' (our den) and that was 'covered' in the cleaning charge. (I am paying them hourly- so its not like its a flat rate).
And then she tried charging me the wrong amount in tax. And then wanted to fight me on it. I was like lady- I am a tax attorney.
Needless to say- I will NOT be using them again.
Re: Since when is a living room- not living space?
How bizarre. Does she not live in her house? Isn't the entire house a livaable space? I would move on too.
Hmm, I don't consider a living room to be living space, but I am surprised she still didn't do a quick dust and vacuum of it. It still gets dusty.
In my mind, the family room is the living space. The living room is usually attached to the dining room and is more of a showroom. I kind of think it is a pointless room, but most houses with dining rooms seem to come with living rooms. In my parent's house, the only time it was ever used was to practice the piano. In the fourteen years I lived there, I don't know that I ever even sat on the couches in that room. That is just my experience, though. Maybe other people actually use it.
That is strange. The living room is definitely living space(at least in our house). Also, if they are being paid by the hour, why does it matter how many "living spaces" they clean?
Definitely would not being using them again.
Well, the living room is the living space if you don't have a family room! LOL
We have a pretty small house - only a kitchen, living room, 2 bedrooms, bathroom and small laundry area/utility room, so I would definitely assume that they'd be cleaning my living room.

Wow and to think I pay taxes on that room on my property tax bill. Hmm... Do you think I could knock down some of that bill by her logic?
As for the wrong sales tax I think she just doesn't want to pay that city's tax.
My house is the same as yours and I would have the same expectation. However, the OP is a tax attorney and has a den, so I made the assumption that her house is big enough for a living room and a family room. I could be wrong, though.
Either way, it is weird the cleaning lady wouldn't clean it.
I do have a living room and a den. And boh are VERY much lived in lol.
My house is far from huge about 2100 sq ft. -
I was just kinda surprised to have someone fight me on cleaning a room (when she is getting paid hourly-). She was just downright indignent- which really threw me for a loop.
Hmm, well our house doesn't have a family room... or a den. So the living room is very much a 'living' room. My parents' house on the other hand has a den, a family room and a living room / dining room. The living room is just as lived in as the rest of the house....
