I know Babies 'R' Us offers a 10% off discount to purchase items off of your registry near your due date, and I heard Target offers a 10% or 15% discount as well. Does anyone know if Walmart offers a discount? I don't want to register there at all, but our family lives in a small area and that's the closest "big" store. I'm debating it and am thinking the discount (or lack of) will sway me one way or the other.
Re: Registries
I'd be leary of a WalMart registry. I've seen a few people on these boards saying that the registry machine is hard to find in the stores and the employees don't seem to be trained on what to do when you're buying from a registry. As a result, their registries went un-used because no one could figure it out if they managed to find the thing.
Target I think has a monster of a return policy if you don't have a receipt, but the discount is similar to BRU. You can get around the receipt thing if the item is marked off your registry, but not all cashiers ask if you're shopping from a registry so things don't always get marked off.
BRU always asks if you're buying from a registry so returns sans receipt are much easier. Also if you are given something that's not on your registry and you want to return it, you can add the item to your registry and then return it. Might not be completely ethical... but they seem allow the loophole for getting around receiptless returns.
I'm no help with the discounts... but just thought I'd share what I've seen others say about different registries.
