Registries

I know Babies 'R' Us offers a 10% off discount to purchase items off of your registry  near your due date, and I heard Target offers a 10% or 15% discount as well.  Does anyone know if Walmart offers a discount?  I don't want to register there at all, but our family lives in a small area and that's the closest "big" store.  I'm debating it and am thinking the discount (or lack of) will sway me one way or the other.

Re: Registries

  • I can not answer your question about Walmart, but my BRU told me (and changed it in our book) that the discount is 15%.

  • I didn't get a discount at Walmart, but the prices were already more than 15% lower than BRU.
  • I'd be leary of a WalMart registry. I've seen a few people on these boards saying that the registry machine is hard to find in the stores and the employees don't seem to be trained on what to do when you're buying from a registry. As a result, their registries went un-used because no one could figure it out if they managed to find the thing.

Target I think has a monster of a return policy if you don't have a receipt, but the discount is similar to BRU. You can get around the receipt thing if the item is marked off your registry, but not all cashiers ask if you're shopping from a registry so things don't always get marked off.

BRU always asks if you're buying from a registry so returns sans receipt are much easier. Also if you are given something that's not on your registry and you want to return it, you can add the item to your registry and then return it. Might not be completely ethical... but they seem allow the loophole for getting around receiptless returns.

I'm no help with the discounts... but just thought I'd share what I've seen others say about different registries.

  • Thanks for the info!  I think I'll avoid WalMart anyway, just seems so silly to go there (you must register online and then most of the items there are available online only, so that defeats the whole purpose of making it convenient).  I've always hated Target returns, they  never make it easy.  And that's a brilliant idea to add the item to your registry at BRU -  love it!
  • As much as I heart Walmart, I ditched them as a registry provider. I just thought it terribly inconvenient for 99% of the purchases to *have* to be made online. They did not seem to realize that some people still want to make purchases in a store instead of having them shipped! I went with Target and their reasonable prices....
