I picked up DS from school the other day and another parent was there at the same time. As they were leaving, she leaned down, pointed to the teachers and said to her son "say goodbye to the lady. Now say goodbye to that lady".
Seriously??? Lady?? These were the two main teachers and their names are even on the door. This child isn't new, and yes this was his mom. I even quizzed my DH and he knew the names of the teachers. He didn't know the floater's name, but that is not a big deal at all.
They are caring for and teaching my child, the least I can do is learn their name! Maybe it's just me, but I actually like to get to know my childs teacher's too. Am I crazy?
Re: Do you know the names of your child's/ren's teachers?
How long had the child been there?
DD goes to an inhome but we know the names of all the parents too. We talk about the kids and their parents with DD on the way home, so I would hope everyone would know the teacher's name!!!

Yes, of course. Is it possible that it was a family friend or grandparent picking up the child instead of the parent? Maybe that might explain why they didn't know the name of the teacher. Or is it a parent you have seen often? In that case, I would definitely find it strange that they don't know the names of the teachers.
I pretty much know the names of all the teachers at DDs' daycare and DH knows all the teachers all the kids in DDs' classes.
Of course I know DD's teacher's names! Anytime I see a new person around, I make a point to introduce myself too. Heck, I bet I know the names of at least 95% of the kids in preschool, and could probably name half of the kids in the other age groups (and her center is licensed for well over 100 kids).
When I was a teacher, it was a HUGE pet peeve of mine when parents didn't make an effort to learn teacher names. I understand that sometimes people forget, but you could always tell the parents that made an effort, and those that didn't.
If I had heard a regular parent refer to a regular teacher as "lady" I wouldn't have been able to help myself from saying, "That lady's name is Ms. So-and-So"
A Little Bird and a Monkey Butt
the main teachers, yes- of course.... but they have floaters that fill in around pick up time- I can never remember their names b/c they change all the time and my kids are only there 2-3 days/week
I know all of the names of my DD's teachers and try my best to remember some of the floaters. I'm with you...I want to get to know the teachers. It's helped me relax a bit with the transition back to work and with daycare and they're so friendly and helpful. Our day care has pictures and names right by the infant room door as well.
