School-Aged Children

Boys

So DS (7 y/o) just learned that not all boys are circumcised (he is) and he asked me how many other boys are and aren't.  I honestly did't know the answer.  I asked DH and he said that white boys are and hispanic and aisan boys aren't and black boy are sometimes.  I have heard that fewer boys are having it done now than when DS was born.

So for those of you with school age boys, is your DS circumcised?  Any experience or insight in this area?

No way will the yes/no poll get you answers along ethnic lines.   Like I said in your other post....tell him that parents make this decision for many different reasons, and explain the difference. Then tell him the polite thing to do is to keep his eyes on his own parts in the restroom.

  • Yes, I know a yes/no poll won't get answers along ethnic lines, but how would a poll like that be written?  That's why I asked an open ended question in addition to the poll.  I am sorry if you took offense.  I did not mean to offend you or anyone else.
  • I have enough experience to know that circumcision is not race specific at all.

Not all white boys are circ'd.  Not all hispanic boys aren't.  Ect.

  • I would just explain to him that it is done for many reasons..religious beliefs, culture, and preventive medical reasons.  Tell him that there is no right or wrong, it's what makes us all unique individuals.

  • Circumcision is popular in the US, but not as popular in any other country.  It has nothing to do with ethnicity, it is more of a cultural tendancy.
