We already have a DD and would love to have a boy to complete our family. Good luck...right?! Anyway, we got a "recipe" for a boy from a friend that works at an OBGYN. I bought ovulation tests to help make it easier to know when to try. We tried day 9 but I didn't buy them and start using them until after that time we tried. If I got pregnant on day 9, would it still show I'm ovulating????

I am not sure if you understand how OPK's work.

you start using them around CD 10 and you will receive a + about 24-36 hours before ovulation. So if you would already be pregnant by CD 9, you would have ovulated on CD 9 or earlier. So no, you would not receive a +OPK after this anymore.

P.S. You can not get pregnant without ovulating. Just to be clear. Smile

Ummm what? Do you mean you O on day 9 and if you had sex that day will you have a boy? Day 9 is pretty early to O but possible, if you did your chances of having a boy are more than likely 50/50....Look up shettles method it might help you out.

vlhst, I'm very sorry everyone is being so crass and unreasonably rude following your extremely clear, well thought out and articulate post. Clearly, they are jealous bitches because they envy the secret recipe.

In answer to your question, the OPKs would blink twice, make a gurgly/farty sound, and then spontaneously combust if you used them after you got pregnant. Unless you ovulated after you got pregnant (which is very common, and happens to 99.2384978% of pregnant women), in which case it would show positive, at which time you should immediately have sex again, to get double pregnant, and hopefully with another boy.

We were told to try before ovulation. Apparently, female sperm live longer than male sperm. Therefore, if you try right at ovulation you have a better chance of having a boy than if you tried a couple days before ovulation.

I know this all sounds stupid, but isn't anything worth trying. I would love whatever we have, but would love to have 1 of each.

The egg dies 12-24 hour after ovulation. It takes sperm quite some time to get to it. If you wait until after ovulation to have sex, you risk nothing being there and viable to meet the sperm

Apparently none of you would like to have 1 of each. I know in the "real world" you don't get to pick what you have, but what I'm doing isn't hurting me so I can't see how it's not worth trying. And if I get another girl, I'll love her just as much as the first.

"In the real world" I'll be lucky to have one baby, so no, the sex of said baby is the least of my worries. Do I secretly hope for one or the other? Yes, but there's no way in hell I would decrease my chances just for a 50/50 chance at determining the baby's sex.
