Can I freeze milk in bottles or does it have to be bags?

I have been starting to pump a bit and I planned on putting my freezer stash in some of those Medela bottles to freeze, thats just what I have handy right now.  I plan to buy some bags soon.

Is it okay to freeze in the bottles?

Re: Can I freeze milk in bottles or does it have to be bags?

  • Yep, I did it all the time, with both kids. Also, when I donated to a milk bank, they gave me bottles to freeze in -- and that milk goes to fragile preemies, and they know what they're doing, so it's surely OK Smile

  • It's fine, but takes a lot longer to defrost.

  • I agree, it takes longer to defrost.  It also uses up your bottles, which aren't as cheap as the bags.  I know I don't have that many bottles on hand.
