My B/G twins are 23 months and are saying a few words here and there, but I am ready for them to do more talking than crying when they want something. I know twins take longer to start talking. When did your twins start talking?

Re: How old were your twins when they started talking?
if they only have a couple words at 23 months I would have them evaluated by EI. Talk to your pedi - they can get you started in the right direction.
At 18mo Grayson had zero words and qualified for speech therapy. I wouldn't wait any longer... at 2y/o they should have a good amount of words - they don't need to be talking up a storm- but only a "few" words, and I'd be concerned.
Different pedi's say different things. My pedi wasn't worried at their 18 month appt when they each only had a few words. Now they are 22 mos and each have about 20 words. I think our major problem is that my DH and I are enablers. We know what they want, we go and get it, the sooner we can stop the fussing the better. So recently we have both been making a serious effort to force them to use words and use everything as a learning opportunity. We name everything on their plate, over and over until they at least attempt to say it, we go for walks and point out tree, grass, bird, flower, over and over again. We sit on the couch and name body parts over and over. I don't pick them up till they say up, I don't hand them the cup till they say cup, no movie (we watch a little at night before bed) until they say it. You get the idea.
DH and I are going to probably ask for an EI consult at their 2 year appt if their language doesn't greatly improve though.
