So DH and I were out for our anniversary dinner a little early bc he has class the night of our real anniversary and we had the discussion the two recent IUI's we did. However, many of you are more well-versed than us in this so I want to run the numbers by you ladies and see what you think.
We've noticed we have a much bigger discrepancy than just losing half in the washing process...like down from 82 million to 38 million. Our progression is fine...at 68%. However, our morphology is ranging around 10-14%. Our sheet indicates the normal value should be greater than 30.
We also tried to figure out the difference between our total motile #'s and total motile normal #'s....what is "normal" for the total motile normal? We only have 2.6 million post wash this last IUI and 4.9 the first IUI.
We are trying to decide whether our next step is a month of injectables or straight to the big guns...based on this info, any advice?
Here are the post-wash numbers in non-paragraph form...let me know if the pre-wash would be more helpful.
June IUI July IUI
Total Count 64.5 mill 76 mill
Prog. Mot. 54% 68%
Norm. Morph 14% 10%
Total Motile 34.5 mill 25.8 mill
Total Motile Norm. 4.9 mill 2.6 mill
We are looking at changing clinics bc I don't feel like we are a good fit with our current dr....hence, why I am asking you all vs. him. Plus you all give fabulous suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Re: Nothing like a discussion of sperm to light up your anniversary dinner...
Ahhh sperm romance.. Nothing like it.
As for the numbers.. They're actually not bad. Lets see if I can break it down a bit for ya. You start with, for example, 50mill sperm per ML prewash. Then they wash them and you can only have 1ML back to insert so you get your 64.5mill from June. Then of those 64mill only 54% move forward and only 14% are of normal shape. The total motile is the 54% of the 64mill = 34 mill. The total motile NORM is both that they're motile AND shaped right. So really, what you're looking at is that 14% of 54% of 64mill are both motile and shaped correctly which gives you your 4.9mill being the perfect combo of both.
Sounds like your lab uses the old WHO morph scale where 30% is normal. There's a different scale called the Strict Kruger which is what most people's RE's here use and on that scale 14% is "normal" but most RE's will do IUI's over 4% and <4% they recommend IVF as the prognosis. I'm not sure where a similar line would be drawn on the WHO scale.
Hope that helps ya some.
