Babies: 0 - 3 Months

When did the baby come???

I'm a first time mom just sitting here wondering what everyones stories are on when their baby came and what the circumstances were.  I'm a few days shy of 38 weeks and with moving in two days and my husband starting to teach again in just about 3 weeks I'm just sitting here being curious about other peoples stories.  How many weeks were you?  Were you really active before baby came? etc. Interested to hear your stories! :-)

Re: When did the baby come???

  • I had weeks and weeks of early labor, which resulted in a baby who was born at 40 weeks, 5 days.  I worked out every day until 38 weeks and then walked every day until I delivered.

  • @ 41 wks  3days naturally, when he was ready. And he was truly worth the wait!
  • I was kind of a couch potato (but a healthy eater) from week 14 and on. I used to run a lot but my knees were acting up then.

I had weeks and weeks of mild contractions but was only 1cm dilated. (That really means nothing in terms of when baby is coming, FWIW.)

On the day I was 38 weeks, I walked. My. @ss. Off. With the intention of inducing labor. 12 hours later (the next day) my water broke. 12 hours after that my son was born.

I couldn't say if it was the walking that did it, but I'm inclined to believe it helped.

As far as being "active", if you're referring to the nesting period, I couldn't really say if I got that or not. The thing I could most easily call the nesting period happened for me when DS was 1 week old. I cleaned everything, and even fixed things around the house that had gone undone for a year (little things, like repainting a nick in the wall).

Good luck! I promise it won't last forever! :)

ETA: If you do do the walking thing, bring someone with you. If you start contracting (as I did at the time, although nothing came of it right then) you'll want someone there to lean on/help you get home.

  • i had BH for weeks and weeks before.  the dr told me that i would probably go early, as they found by ultrasound that my baby was expected to be big. i went into labour at 39 weeks 1 day. i was in labour for 20 hours and pushed for 4. when my son was born hes right arm wasw limp because he had to be pulled out at the end. his arm is just fine now. my baby was born at 1:37 pm june 21st 8lb 2 oz and i was the best day of my life! good luck with your labour and delivery.  :)
  • First time mom here as well. :)

My labor started at 39 weeks and 1 day - 12 hours after having my membranes stripped at my 39 week appointment with my OB - and I delivered at 39 weeks and 2 days. As a manager/server/bartender of two lounges, I was on my feet and moving constantly up until 36 weeks, when I was put on modified bed rest due to low fluid levels.

  • my LO came at 38 weeks. we went to the doctor one day, he said i was 1 cm dilated, 50% effaced (not sure how long i was at that point before then)... the next morning (less than 24 hours) i was 4.5 cm dilated. Bria came at 3:49pm that day.

i had had about a month and a half of braxton hicks contractions before labor began. a week before she came the b.h. were much more intense.

we were in the process of moving too, plus i was training 2 people at work; so i would say that i was very busy and pretty active (as well as fairly stressed).

I've edited the above statement to reflect my situation. I was also dilated to nearly a 3 and 70% effaced for the last 3 weeks too. I know it sucks, but the baby will come when they are ready and no one can really tell you when that is. I hope they come soon!

  • DS 2 was my first labor and natural birth process.  I had two days of latent labor before things finally started progressing and he came at 39 weeks exactly...lol.  I guess he didnt want to wait one more week for his due date!

  • DD #1 came at exactly 39w.  DS came at 40w 4d.  I am active at work and worked the day I delivered but I didn't work out during the pregnancy.  I kept having muscle spasms whenever I did anything extra.  I drank a crap load of rasberry tea the day I went into labor lol.  I'm sure that did it Wink

  • Macy came at 35w 3d, completely and utterly out of the blue.  I had a textbook pregnancy with no complications.  Very mild contractions (which I didn't even know were contractions) started at 4:30 pm.  We reluctantly went to the hospital at 11:30 pm expecting to be laughed at and sent home but instead I found out I was 5 cm dilated.  Less than 2 hours later, no time for an epidural or pain meds, and with the assistance of a vacuum and random doctor, Macy was here.  She had to stay in the NICU for 10 days, and it was very difficult, but she is perfect!

  • DD- 42 weeks 3 days

    DS - 41 weeks 6 days

My first was induced, second went on its own. I was very active up until the day I delivered with both. I worked right up until I delivered with my second and was walking/running with both until the end.

    Hang in there!

  • My babe came at 41 weeks exactly. I was walking close to 3 miles every day trying to get her to decide to come out. I had my induction scheduled on a Monday, pre labor that night and the next day, and active labor Tuesday evening into Wednesday when I gave birth to her.

  • DS was born at 39 weeks 3 days. I went into labour on my own. My OB never checked me at my previous appointments so I have no idea how much progress I had made up until that point.

I wasn't super active at that point, but I worked until 1 week before his birth, and commuting to work involved a few short walks and flights of stairs. I did some nesting, but I was feeling too huge and uncomfortable to do a whole lot.

Early labour started at noon on Wednesday, active labour around midnight, and he was born on Thursday morning at 9:17 am.

  • I was exactly 41 weeks. I had bulging membranes for almost 2 weeks before I went into labour. I also walked almost every day for 3 weeks before labour and the night I went into labour I walked to DH's grandmother's house for Easter Supper and pushed my 3 year old in a stroller there and back - that did it lol.

  • I'm a FTM and my son came early at 36 weeks 1 day.  My water broke and he came 17 1/2 hours later and was 6 lbs and ready to go home in less than 48 hours. I'm a teacher so I had the summer off and was doing a little bit of activity at the gym here and there, going on some walks, and spending time in the pool.

  • I'm a first time mom as well. I walked (power walked/waddled at the end) just about every day after 30 weeks. Before that I pretty much did my regular workout. I went for an extra long walk the day before my due date and I went into early labor at 3 am on my due date. I went into active labor at 10 pm that same day. My daughter was born the next morning...8lbs 11oz! Everything went well and now I enjoy spending every moment I can with her! I hope your delivery is a smooth one!

  • I had her at 39 weeks, 3 days . I had strong BH for a few days before true labor began. I was already 5 cm when we got to the hospital. The only augmenting I had was getting my water broken. That happened at 1:45 pm and she was out at 6:43 pm.

Oh, and I was a healthy eater but kind of a lazy bum during the pregnancy (office job).

Delivered at 37 weeks, but I was expected to go early due to complications I have.  I worked until 1:30pm and was admitted to the hospital at 4:00pm only after running to pick up my car from the shop and finish packing my bag.

  • I delivered at 40 weeks 6 days (went into labor at 40w5d).  I was so sick of being pg and tried every old wives tale except castor oil...long walks, spicy food, pineapple, sex, you name it.  Nothing worked!  LO came on his own sweet time.  I went into labor while I was laying in bed trying to go to sleep one night, out of the blue.  Just started having contractions (I'd only had painless BH in the weeks leading up).  My water didn't break (they had to do it for me during labor).  Labor was 20 hrs long.

GL with the rest of your pregnancy!

  • My boys came 12 weeks early due to twin to twin transfusion syndrome.  One of my boys stopped growing well and the blood flow in his umbilical cord was beginning to reverse.  I was on modified bed rest for 6.5 weeks.

  • 39 weeks and 3 days. the week leading up we walked every night. The day before I walked the mall - just did laps to try and get things started. I am healthy eater too but the day before I had a spicy soup for lunch, pineapple for dessert at dinner time. Two days before I went into labor I was 1-2cm dilated and about 40% effaced.

  • I'm a massage therapist, and continued to work until I was 38 weeks. I then just worked the front desk until my daughter was born.

I was induced at 40 weeks 2 days and was in labor for roughly 27 hours. My water broke on it's own some time that evening. After 5 hours of pushing, and eventually using forceps, my daughter was born at 40 weeks 3 days at 9 pm exactly. <3

  • I was lazy for pretty much my entire pregnancy. At 37 weeks and some change, my mom came down to visit for the weekend (She lives in NY, I live in GA). She was planning to come back when DS was born too. So the day she got here, we returned a bunch of things and got some things I hadn't gotten from showers. Basically, we shopped all day and I walked my @ss off. When we got home, we organized everything and got everything set up so that the rest of the time she was there, we could relax and just hang out and not worry about things not being done. Anyway, I went into labor that night. I'm pretty sure it was from all the walking. It was awesome timing and my mom ended up staying a week and a half instead of just 4 days.

  • I was 40 weeks 3 days. I had been 80% effaced for at least 2 weeks and was 3 cm dilated for 1 week. Contractions started 5 hours before my scheduled induction (whew!). 10 hours of labor with 2 hours of pushing.
  • 41 weeks 6 days.  I tried being active, having sex, testing out all sorts of natural labour induction methods...Nothing worked, and I had to be induced at 2 weeks past due.

  • I had my first at 40 weeks exactly. My water broke the day before, and she came after 26 hours of labor and 4 hours of pushing. I was not very active before having her because I had pulled a muscle in my back and was in extreme pain!

My second was born at 41 weeks 1 day after 9 hours of labor and 1 hour of pushing. And I was really active because I had a toddler!

  • I was 12 days late, relatively active (walking), had acupuncture twice to help move things along (which did nothing).  Went into labor naturally when I woke up on a Wednesday morning around 6am, delivered him on Thursday at 11:15am via c-section (yes, 28 hours of labor and he would not come out).  It seemed like it went faster than that, though.  Labor felt like some kind of weird time warp.

  • I was substitute teaching about 3 days a week during the 2nd and 3rd trimester. Then I was put on bedrest at about 35 weeks due to pregnancy-induced hypertension.  They kept me overnight for monitoring at 37 weeks, but the high blood pressure went down when I was just laying there.  We did ultrasounds and NSTs for every appointment, and they suspected that she may be very large.  At 39 weeks 3 days, I had her by a c-section due to her estimated size (she ended up only being 8 lb. 10 oz.) and since my high blood pressure kept rising.  I had wanted to go into labor naturally, but they didn't feel it would be safe.

  • 37 weeks. Induced due to sky high BP.

  • I woke up with contractions at 39 weeks. I labored all day at home, went to the hospital at 5 pm. I was only 2 cm but things progressed from there. DD arrived at 2:36 am at 39w1d. I walked daily from 36 weeks on.

  • I went into pre term labor at 34 weeks. I was checked at 3cm and 80% effaced. I had contractions 8minutes apart. I was given Pro-Cardia and put on bed rest till 37 weeks. At 37 weeks I was 4cm and 90 effaced and a 0station. At my 39 week appt (actually 38 and 5days) I was 5cm and 100% effaced my doctor said if I had any contractions at all that he wanted me to come into the hospital because he was afraid with being halfway dilated and completly effaced I would have the baby at home if I waited for the the 5-1-1 rule. So the next day I checked into the hospital at 5cm 100% effaced and a -1 station. I was checked in at noon and had him at 6:06pm the same day. I got the epidural at 8cms but it didnt take and fifteen minutes later I was fully dilated and ready to push. I pushed him out with about 6 contractions. Good luck and it definately doesnt hurt to walk. I walked about 3-5 times a week up until I was put on bed rest.

  • Despite my ticker....(I can't update it TB hates me).....DS came on his due date after weeks of contractions and 28 hrs of labor.

FWIW.....LESS than 5% of babies are born on their due dates, most first time moms are late, just a heads up.

    Good Luck!

  • FTM (by birth anyways) Went into labor naturally at 39 weeks 4 days and gave birth at 39 weeks 6 days. I had zero progression beforehand.
