Parenting after a Loss

Charlotte has reflux :(

She has been a spitter from day 1. But this past week it has gotten worse, and she has been screaming in agony randomly after feeds. At night she fusses constantly, and I can hear her gurgling on reflux. Sometimes she spits it, sometimes she swallows, but she sounds SO unhappy. She also always has the hiccups which sometimes results in upchucking an entire feed. I've tried elevating the mattress, keeping her upright for 30 minutes, still growling and gurgling and spitting.

I took her in today, and she gained 2 oz in 5 days, which isn't horrific, but is a drop off from before. Despite tons of wet and poopy diapers, I guess it's affecting her. So she's on Zantac now.

Any advice?

Re: Charlotte has reflux :(

  • No advice, as I haven't had to personally deal with this, but I hope the Zantac gives her some much needed relief! Poor lil' girl!

  • No advice but I did want to say that Ashley S is going through this also and just started meds and it seems to be working for her LO.  Hopefully the meds work and Charlotte (and mom!) gets some relief soon <<hugs>>

  • Do you always have to copy me? First the low fluid, now this. He he he..seriously though Luca has reflux too. He just got put on Zantac Friday. They sound exactly alike. He always has hiccups, spits up after every feeding almost, cries at the breast sometimes, arches his back and hates being burped after feedings, really fussy at night...tried elevating him, got a RnP for him to sleep in, nothing worked. Pedi said at his 1 month apt Friday he wanted to try some reflux meds. We started them Friday night and I know it takes a couple days to work, but yesterday was great and today has been good so far too. Usually his mornings and evenings are the worst, but this morning has been great! I hope Charlotte starts feeling better soon! It's awful when you know they are uncomfortable and you can't fix it. The only bad thing is that he hates the meds and it's so hard to get him to swallow them and keep them down. I don't want to give him more because we never know how much he actually swallowed, but he spits up almost half of the dose:(

LOL, I KNOW! Charlotte obviously wants to be just like Luca ;)

I was wondering about that -- I tasted the Zantac and it is kind of gross. She took the first dose pretty well and is sleeping soundly now with minimal spittage after her last session. But what happens if they upchuck a lot? Do you give them another dose?

Glad to hear Luca is doing better!

  • My LO has reflux too... Do you have a Rock n' play sleeper... it saved our lives!!!  Jack slept in it until he was almost 3 months old.  Also, feeding him when he was sitting more upright helped so much too.

I second this. We bought the Rock N Play and it is AWESOME. DS loves it and the fact that he is sitting more upright makes me feel better putting him back to bed after a feeding.

  • Dd1 had awful reflux. I decided against meds and removed dairy out of my diet. A huge difference. However always spit up a lot.
