Earth's Best feeders.....

Since most people are always looking at BPA-free toys/bottles/etc -- does the fact that Earth's Best food containers are not BPA-free throw you off in anyway? Or has anyone switched from EB because of this? Just curious.

  • I must be living under a rock Embarrassed I had no idea. Definitely thrown off. Probably will finish off what's left and make my own food.

  • The amount of BPA is so trace I'm not worried. There are more chemicals in his car seat and obviously I'm not going to stop using that.

    Yes

This, plus we don't use EB exclusively, mostly just for meats and some of the veggies.

    Yes

I'd had a hard time finding single vegetables.  Earth's Best was the only organic brand that had a decent variety of single vegetables.  I'm using a different brand for fruits (not because of BPA) and depending on the cost I'll either continue using Earth's Best or switch to something else.

  • I just saw in our Target that Earth's Best is now coming in the same sort of pouches that Plum Organics, etc. comes in.

  • This may be a stupid question, but how is there BPA in the glass food bottles?  Or are we talking about a different variety?

From my understanding it has to do with the lids.

  • OK, Ladies.  So I'm a paranoid mom, and I just did some research based on this conversation.  It seems that the BPA in the lid doesn't actually come in contact with the food at all - it's used under a layer of protective coating in the lid, and helps that coating to adhere.  Every independent test I found online confirmed there were NO levels of BPA in Earth's Best food at all, which confirms the word that the BPA actually doesn't touch the food.

So I was initially concerned, but now I'm not.  For me personally, I still think glass is better than plastic, despite the BPA in the lid (since I think BPA is just the tip of the iceberg, and plastics in general are worrysome).  I would say the only thing this would prompt me to change is to not save the jars for reuse due to possible breakdown of that layer that guards the BPA...but I really don't save the jars anyway - I usually just recycle them immediately after use.

Thanks for posting your research. ;)  We don't have good recycling where we are but I save mine and post them on Freecycle because people use them for crafts, etc. I would re-use them for something besides food storage. I make little shakers out of the plastic Gerber tubs for DS to play with.
