Any Aquarium Tips?

We're thinking of taking DS to the aquarium for the first time next Friday because his daycare is closed for a faculty planning day.  Any tips on taking a 2 year old?  For instance, is it worth buying the ticket to the Dolphin Show?  Do you usually take a stroller when you go?  Can you bring in snacks?

Photographer friends - Any tips on getting good pictures of him staring into the huge aquarium?  What settings would we need to use?

Thanks!

Re: Any Aquarium Tips?

  • I have always brought the stroller in the past, b/c they get tired.  You can check it inside if you decide not to use it.
  • Loading the player...
  • They won't allow a stroller in the dolphin show. But I would bring one for the rest of it.

  • Yes to the stroller. I haven't done the dolphin show so not help there. Techincally its no outside food/drinks but I always have snacks and a sippy in my bag for the boys. They have never said anythign about it when they check my bag.

  • Yes to the stroller and the snacks.  I haven't done the dolphin show yet but thinking of doing it soon.  I'm hoping that after everyone is back in school but before field trip season kicks in, it might be a slow time to go during the week?  Anyway, my big complaint about our aquarium is the idiotic playground set up where the entrance to the slide is upstairs and the slide comes out downstairs so its impossible for one parent to do it alone.  Whoever designed that needs to be shot.  So just make sure 1 parent stays downstairs and waits for him to come out.

  • Thanks ladies!  I just found this about the Dolphin Tales show on the Ga Aquarium website:

While our AT&T Dolphin Tales gallery is appropriate for all ages, the show utilizes video, strobe and flash lighting, special effects and loud noises which may not be appropriate for very young children or those under the age of 3.

So, yeah, maybe not good for my 2 year old... It does say

General admission Aquarium tickets allow access to the dolphin viewing gallery at various times throughout the day at no additional cost. Ask a team member at the gallery entrance for those times on the day of your visit.

So, maybe we'll just do gen admin and look into going to the dolphin viewing gallery without the show.

  • If you go to the show let us know. I want to take Wyatt for his bday. Ive always taken a stroller and snacks. As far as camera settings, bump up your iso (800) and lower your shutterspeed 1/60 or so. If you can open your aperture go as low as you can :) 2.8 or 1.8
