Is it MA-Kale or Ma-Kay-lee?

    I've always loved "MA-Kale" Christine. While it's still on the list I don't think it'll win. But I've always wondered the best way to spell it.

    Now that my secret is leaked...do you think it's too close to Michael? My fathers name is Michael and I wish not to have people think there's a connection.

    I would be inclined to pronounce it Ma-Kale, but I've never seen it before. The way it looks makes me think of Macaw.

    I would pronounce that word Ma-kale. I also think it is weird, made-up and not a good name for a kid.

    I would probably gues Ma-kale too, and yes, I think it is way too close to Michael.

    Too close to Michael and too very much like a boy's name instead of a girl's name. The Ma-Kale pronunciation actually makes me think of the boy's name Mikhail.

    Definitely not MUH-kale though. Plus MUH-kale sounds incredibly awful...

    Yep, I would think Mikhail if you wanted that pronunciation.

    Sorry, sugar, you posted on a public message board. You don't get to control what people post about.

    I would say Muh-kale, and yes, I would assume it's some weird twist on Michael. Or that it has to do with the University of Arizona's McKale stadium, because I grew up in Tucson. Either way, I don't like it. It also doesn't balance well with Christine. One is made up (essentially) and the other is classic - they don't match well for me.

    I read it as Ma-kay-lee, actually, because from the first two syllables I understood what they were after.

     Of course, if it really IS Ma-kale, then... I don't know. Jeez. I just don't even know anymore.

    Edit: Dangit, you really threw me. Sounds like a boy's name to me, kind of like Mikhail.

    Isn't MA-Kale the name of that nut from Real Housewives of DC?  Even though her real name is Michelle or Micayla or something, she started making everyone pronounce it MA-Kale?

    MA-Kale is how I would pronounce it but I think it looks and sounds (either way) awful.
