Breastfeeding

I'm done...now what happens?

I EP'd for over 6 months, and slowly weaned down to pumping 2X a day, then pumped once for a couple days, and now I haven't pumped for a week and a half.

So what happens next?

I don't feel like I'm going to explode, but I have general soreness and sensitivity, and some shifting hard masses that are uncomfortable but not anything like clogged ducts were. Will this all eventually be absorbed back into my body? Any idea how long till I feel "normal" again?

  • Wow! Although I cannot answer your question, I have to say I am impressed you pumped for 6 months. I am pumping only right now and find it hard to keep up. How many times a day did you pump? Did you also supplement formula when needed?

  • ladylisalt - check out the blog in my siggy, me & a bunch of other pumping moms share our experiences, I personally started with every 3 hours round the clock and dropped down from there after the first month. I always had a great supply until I cut down to 3X a day and took a dip - but I had such a huge freezer stash I didn't care too much by then, and never had to supplement till after I hit my 6 month goal. Now I introduced formula to make sure she'll take it, and we're alternating that and frozen breastmilk (she's got no preference, both are going great) until the frozen runs out - just about to 7 months old now.

Lots of schedule info on the blog, and some people who didn't use a schedule - and LOTS of pumping success stories, ladies enduring WAY longer than I did :)

However, I need some advice/assurance about when my poor rack will feel ok again, anybody?!?!?

  • Cold cabbage leaves in your bra will help relieve any soreness and dry up any milk that's left.
