Baby Names

What do you think of the name Cooper?

My husband loves the name Cooper for our baby if it's a boy, he's even started refering to the baby as Coop at times.  I was totally against the name at first but am slowly, very slowly, coming to (sort of) like it.  I originally liked names like Henry, Edward, Oliver, but thought maybe Cooper J (a middle name that starts with J) might be fun.  We could call him Coop of CJ?  I'm still not sure though.  I had never even thought of the name Cooper so I would love some thoughts from people!  Thanks so much!

I think it's very cute...for a baby, or a dog. It doesn't pass the president/judge/doctor test for me.

  • mini. i see how it could grow on you. i kind of like it...
  • I really like Cooper. I know a little Cooper and he is adorable. We all call him Coopuh because he's still working on his r's
  • It is my dogs name, so I cannot make the separation....
  • I like it!

  • I think of it as a dog's name or a last name before a child's fn.

I also associate it with the character Peter Facinelli plays on Nurse Jackie.  He's a total t-bag.

Super Duper Pooper Cooper. If you don't mind his name rhyming with Pooper, or his nickname rhyming with Poop, go for it. Personally, I would not use it, but it also sounds awful with our last name, so it was never a consideration.

Plus it's a fairly common surname given as a first name, ranking up there with Carter, Spencer, etc.

  • Love it!  It is on our list.  It may even be #1 on our list!  For whatever reason, I mentioned the name Cooper Joseph and my DH went with CuJo as a nn.  I know that is terrible, so if he doesn't stop - it may not be #1 anymore!
  • Its our top boys name right now

  • I LOVE Cooper!!! If my cousin who is my age didn't have the name our son would be named Cooper. I not a huge fan of initial nn but CJ is one of the better ones for sure and yes if you just say coop it sounds like a chicken coop but you don't say it on purpose it's just shortened like when people call me Ash. My cousin is 27 yrs old and he gets called Coop more than Cooper. I definitely do not think of Pooper at all but I'm used to Cooper so maybe that's why. Also as far as it being a "baby name" I know 2 adults named Cooper and a teenager and I've never thought anything about it. If you love it, use it!
