? re bellabands, rubberbands, "squeezing in" to reg clothes

I didn't understand why women do this last time around and I still don't this time. Why not just buy a couple pairs of maternity pants that are comfortable rather than torture yourself with uncomfortable bands or squeezing into reg pants? I mean, you're going to have to buy them eventually....why not get more use out of them and start wearing them earlier? With my son, I bought my first pair of nice maternity work pants at 8 weeks. My life was so much better bc my bloat wasn't being compressed and I never had to mess with zippers or bands, or anything like that. I slowly added on to my wardrobe as I progressed.

Is there a reason why women do this? Enlighten me!! =)

  • Budget maybe. Maybe b/c some arent very cute. I guess I don't really know. I have a pair of really cute capris that I band because I love em. I bought some mat clothes & some just a couple sizes too big to wear after baby too.

  • 1) i don't think my band is uncomfortable at all. it's actually very nice to have the support around my belly

    2) i have several friends that never wore maternity pants. jeans+bands, or stretchy spandex (leggings are IN right now..take advantage!). i'm going to hold out and not get them if i don't have to.

  • I agree with you about the rubberbands, but not the bellaband.  I actually really like my bellaband and think it's super comfortable.  Also it makes it so I don't have to buy more maternity clothes right away.  Example: today we had some meetings at work and normally I can dress super casual to work (jeans), but today I had to dress up.  I was super happy to have my bellaband so I can just wear a pair of nice slacks that I already own, without having to go buy some for just one day.  KWIM?

  • That's a good question.  I got tired of squeezing into my clothes last week and went thrift shopping and I feel SO much better now wearing maternity pants.  I don't feel near as uncomfortable as I did before.

There is a period of time for me where maternity pants are super baggy but regular pants are not comfortable fully zipped and buttoned.  I just converted to full on maternity pants this week and am breathing a sigh of relief, but they do still bag a bit.  For the last few weeks the belly band was my friend.

  • Speaking as someone who has no living children, but has had nothing but losses, buying maternity clothes is a BIG deal. Buying them, maybe even wearing them, and then having to pack them away when your child dies is an emotional bomb. That's why I'm still "squeezing in" to my regular clothes.

Well, that and my jeans have a lot of lycra in them anyway. Wink

I'm in full on maternity with this one because my bellyband from DS is MIA.  I wore it with him the entire pg though.  I actually only had 2-3 pairs of maternity pants with him. I wore my pre-pg work pants all the time.  A word of warning though, I wore them so long with the belly band and put so much pressure on the unzipped zipper, that when I went back to work PP, they wouldn't stay zipped. I essentially ruined my work pants by wearing them my entire pg.  Idiot!

I do need to get another band though. It would make those days when maternity pants still feel frumpy a lot easier.

THIS! I've been wearing my bigger pants from after I had DS and now that they have gotten to be tight I moved to maternity pants yesterday. I forgot how much more comfortable they are!

  • I still fit my regular clothes but my main reason for delaying maternity clothes is that I always get sick and tired of being in "maternity clothes" around 8 months and long for regular clothes.
  • The first time around I was in denial that I didn't fit into my clothes anymore. I never got a bellaband because I have a big butt and it would have just rolled up, lol. This time I want to wear my maternity clothes but they are still too big! I am wearing a pair of mat pants from ON today because I'm at the house all day so no one will see them falling off of me. They sure are comfy.

  • The rubberband sucks and is painful but the bellaband is not. I found it helpful to get a good 4-5luck more weeks out of my suits at work and before I outed myself there. Also I had a weird in between stage where mat clothes were too big and my regular clothes too small.

This! I just bought my belly band, and my regular clothes fit for now, but I figure I don't want to limit my wardrobe to just what I can afford in maternity clothes! I would be wearing the same 5 or 6 outfits over and over again. That would get really old.

  • B/c I outgrew my suit pants and skirts...and jeans...but all the maternity pants were still too loose around my stomach.  So it wasn't really an option.  A jury may look at my oddly if I'm losing my britches!  Plus, some people may want to wait until they are bigger so they don't have to buy multiple pairs.  maternity clothes aren't cheap!

  • My Bella Band is comfortable, my jeans are cute, I'm not going to buy designer maternity jeans, I don't like the idea of buying a lot of maternity clothes I'll never wear again, and right now maternity pants look ridiculous on me anyway.  I'll wait as long as possible before I have to wear those same three pairs of pants over and over.  February is still a long ways away.

I know it's silly, but I feel like it's jinx-y to buy maternity clothes too early.  Though I did cave and order a shirt online because I loved it so much.  I'm also hoping not to have to buy any summer maternity clothes.  Hopefully when I really start to show, I can get away with just buying fall stuff.

I used the elastic trick on the weekend.  I didn't find it uncomfortable, but annoying when I had to unwrap the thing to pee 700 times in one night.  Can't wait for my BellaBands to come in!
