How often should a formula fed/supplemented baby poop at 1-2 weeks old? My only frame of reference is for BF babies where I know they should go 3-4 times a day. Boodle has been getting a significant amount of formula (about 1/3-1/2 of her intake is formula) since 5 days old though, so I don't think we can just go by the BFing recommendations.
Just wondering if I should be concerned that she only is going once a day the last few days (a significant amount, just only once a day). I recall with Toodle that formula slowed him down, but we didn't start him on it until 2 weeks and didn't get a significant amount until closer to 3 weeks at which point I think it was normal for him to slow down anyways...
Thanks!
Re: Formula feeders/supplementers from day one...
It's hard to say what is "normal"...my SIL breastfed and her baby only pooped once every few days....she went 7 days once. And apparently that can be totally normal for a breastfed baby....I had no idea!
I think once a day is what they like to see in formula fed babies whereas typically breastfed babies go more frequently.
Right now, Ava goes once a day (and what lovely diapers those are.)
. When she was brand new, I'm pretty sure she went about 4 times a day. What kind of formula are you using? Is she straining to go?
PS- How is Toodle adjusting to Big Brotherhood? Is he loving on his baby sister?
She's on Good Start gentle (ready to feed) - that's what we used with Toodle too, and what was recommended to us for him when he had digestive issues after starting formula (the pedi adivsed us to switch from Similac). She seems sometimes like she may be straining but hard to tell, she mostly just sleeps all day but just today has cried out a couple times and kidn of squirmed but never for more than 5-10 seconds before going back to sleep.
Toodle loves her, he likes to give her kisses and tries to hug her.
