Room temperature? It's 105 outside, how to keep baby cool?

We live in a town home and bedrooms are upstairs.  We do have central air conditioning, which works wonderful downstairs but not so great upstairs.  I'm sure it was in the 80's in our room last night, with a/c on, ceiling fan on max and a tower fan on max.  I put baby down in just a diaper and he still felt warm.  Does anyone have any tips on how to keep baby cool at night time when it's this hot outside?

 TIA

  • we are in the same boat (temperate downstairs, broiling upstairs).  i just dress baby lightly, keep the fan on, let baby sweat, and don't stress about it.  the human race survived before the invention of air conditioning...

  • If it were that warm, I would sleep downstairs with the baby. Or if its that warm all the time could you buy a wall a/c unit?

  • I don't have central air either.. on days that we don't run the window units I just keep DD in a diaper. This is the 3rd generation of family in this house and DD is the first to have any kind of a/c. Everyone else turned out ok :)   I tryyyy not worry so much. It can be hard sometimes though.

Thank you for writing this.  I've been insane about temperature and I'm not sure why.  LO seems fine but for some reason I'm obsessing over it.

  • We've actually moved ourselves downstairs to sleep with baby (the original plan was to have her next to our bed) since it is so much cooler downstairs...I miss my bedroom though...

  • we live in az, so it's at least 105 outside right now. we keep the a/c running at 80

but our room, which the baby is in with us right now, gets really warm in the am, since it's east facing

basically all i do is just keep baby in a t shirt and a diaper or just a diaper at night. during the day she is usually sleeping with a light blanket and she's fine.

i actually asked my ped about how to handle the heat with a newborn since this is our first summer in az, and she basically said the same thing. stay in the shade, don't go out when it's high heat which for us is between 11-2.

i asked about what signs to look for with dehydration in a nb and she said, lack of wet diapers, and dry lips...

It's reading those baby books with the "suggested temperatures", that started my concern, then that darn baby monitor with the temperature on it started saying "high" and that freaked me out more.  Gotta relax a bit more I guess lol
