Babies: 9 - 12 Months

have you ever said your kid sucks or called him/her a jerk

or an assshole?  Not to them but to someone else about them?  I understand being frustrated but I could never say my kid sucks.  [Poll]

  • I am the most horrible mom ever.

Don't you feel bad for my kid?

PS - You never answered my question.

  • To my husband. I'd never say it if I thought he understood. I can remember my mom saying (at one of our birthday parties) "I don't know if my kids are stupid or just lazy." I still haven't forgiven her.

  • Oh lord haha  We call him a jerkass, a dink, a little ***..the list goes on.  DH and I adore him (like I'm sure all these other mothers do) but sometimes you just have to say "He's being kind of a jerk right now."  I'd never say it to him, obviously.

    This.

I also may or may not have said something similar to Kate's post today also.

And sometimes I joke with him and say in a super sweet voice that it's never too late to be a dumpster baby.  He laughs at me, it diffuses the situation.

  • this reminds me of the Modern Family episode where Claire is basically calling her kids jerks, then Sofia says she would never say anything bad about Manny, but then she snaps and starts talking bad about him and he hears her.  anyway, it's a really classic and awesome episode.  love that show.

i've never called DS a jerk.  yet.  i call him a "fussbudget" because it's more fun to say.

  • I've said he's being a crank-pot or he's being a grumpy butt and my DH and I have nicknamed him "little monster" because he is always getting into things, climbing things, and pitching huge fits if he can't do something himself, etc. But those are all lovingly said nicknames and I would never say my kid was a jerk or an *** esspecially to them or someone else.

  • Yesterday I was at my mom's and I was holding LO. He rocked back super hard and hit me in the chest and I said 'Ow jerkface'. I thought my mom was going to die - she did not care for that at all! I pointed out to her that she calls me a *** when I am being one and of course she denied it.

  • I guess I don't see how a baby can be a jerk.

A teen? yes. heck, even a 6 year old. They make those choices to do jerkish things. But a baby? You might not like their actions, and it might be damn hard and frustrating, but they aren't being jerks/douches/whatever.

But I'm starting to think I'm the one old school holdout who tries not to curse in front of my kid at all, lol.

personally, i feel like the only time you can use these kinds of words is before they understand them. it has nothing to do with his intentions and everything to do with me trying to get these impulses out of my system.

I don't think derogatory names are warranted at this point - it would only misplace and feed any frustrations I'm having with him

  • Ummmmm, not to someone else, but when she goes through her "I'm not going to sleep at all phases" (and some have lasted MONTHS) I've been known to tell her she's being a baby jerk. I call people jerks lovingly all the time, though, sooooo in a roundabout way I'm really saying "I love you" :P

I also tell them I should have sold them when they were young and valuable.

  • I have said to DH that LO was being a jerk when she starts crying and gives me a hard time about going to sleep, but I wouldn't call her a jerk to other people. I don't think it's right to bad mouth your child to other people. My neighbors bad mouth their kids to us and our other neighbors all the time (granted they are little a$$holes, but that's besides the point). Maybe they are just living up to the standards that their parents placed on them. Also, the same neighbor told her 10 year old to shut the f*ck up the other day. That was lovely. Then they wonder why the 7 soon to be 8 year old doesn't have any respect for adults.
  • I would never be derogatory towards my child in a serious moment. However we call him little fvcker, punk, etc in love and frustration. A standby in my house is to tell someone they are being a juice box. This is my 5 year olds version of douchbag.

  • So at this point in the poll, near 25% of people admit that they have badmouthed their child to another person.  This is the 9-12 month baby board; what the fvck could your 9-12 month old baby have done to you that would make you badmouth him or her to another person?  This boggles my mind.  There are obviously some tongue-in-cheek answers and I can appreciate that... this is a ridiculous post and a ridiculous poll... but wow.  Just wow.

It's a call out from a post below.  I think venting to someone about your even 10month old baby is okay.  I just called my very easy baby a cranky pants.  I think it's harder for those of us who have these easy babies to not imagine what it would be to have a baby that is tougher.  I always joke that we shouldn't mess this up by having a second to my dh.

Really? Because this all started in a post where people were complaining about how rough this age is. People flat out said it was a vent. It seems thats how people really feel. And heck, I can relate to the frustration for sure.

And thats fine, I just think its misplaced anger to some extent since the kid isn't doing it on purpose.
