Mommies of tummy sleepers come in

DS is a terrible sleeper. I put him down for  a nap this morning and he slept for 1 hour. That is very rare. I just put him down for another nap and am crossing my fingers. I was wondering. Do you put DC on their back or tummy at night? At what age did you stop being so paranoid? (DS can lift and turn his head so that makes me feel a little better) How do you cover them with a blanket?

  • I was tempted around that age to let K tummy sleep, but the paranoia won out.  Instead, we invested in a Miracle Blanket and it worked wonders.  He started tummy sleeping around 5 months because he could roll himself over and I couldn't stop it.  We don't use blankets.  He either sleeps in a warm pair of pjs with feet or a sleep sack.

  • Right now I only put her on her tummy for a nap if she's where I can see her...usually on a blanket in the living room.

With DS...I think he was rolling before I put him on tummy for the night.

  • DS has been sleeping on his tummy for about 7 or 8 weeks.  As soon as he could lift his head and turn it in his sleep I started letting him.  He now sleeps through the nights most of the time and we have had no problems.
  • DS has been a tummy sleeper for a few months now.  he had awesome neck control so that did help.  i did end up picking up breathable bumpers because DS would squirm up to corner of the crib and that made me nervous. also, i would suggest skipping blankets and maybe do a blanket sleeper instead...

if you are super nervous, you can always get something like the angelcare monitor.  it would have never worked because DS moves all around the crib and would end up off the sensor for sure, but it might work for you...

  • Oh and DS also sleeps in our room and we don't cover him up, he sleeps in sleepers with the feet or with socks on and we don't have the fan on so he doesn't get cold.
  • E has slept on her belly (for naps & at night) since about 6 weeks.  We put her in a sleep sack, so she doesn't get a blanket over her.

  • DS has slept on his tummy since he was 2 weeks old.  For naps and at night.  I just made sure that he didn't have a blanket with him and he was always in his pack and play or his crib.  I felt a lot better after talking to his pedi about it.

  • At about 3 months I started letting DS sleep on his tummy at night. I was paranoid for the first few day's and would wake up and stare at him all night. It doesn't bother me at all anymore. The SIDS rate drops 85% once your child hits 4 months. But that's just me, I know some people that don't allow their baby to until 1 year. My DS just sleeps better now and so do I so it works for us.

  • DS started NAPPING on his tummy (in the same room as me where I could watch him) when he was about 3 months. I didn't start letting him tummy sleep all the time until a couple of weeks ago ... and now he's rolling over anyway so it doesn't really make a difference to him. We don't use a blanket, he just wears jammies.

We also had a lot of luck with a Miracle Blanket and a swing when he was 1 - 3 months old and did most of his night sleeping like that.
