I have always been a 1/2 % drinker. My aunt saw this in my fridge and said pregnant ladies should drink D milk. Does this really matter? She said the fat was good for the babies brain...
I drink almond milk. I would think it's fine to drink what you normally do unless your OB tells you something different (like you need to gain more weight)
Organic 1% or Fat Free....whole milk has way too much unecessary fat/unsaturated fat. I feel my vitamin D and calcium intake is what it should be with what I drink and getting out in the sun for a few minutes a day.

Isn't all milk fortified with Vitamin D? It is in Canada. I like 2% lately. I used to drink skim, actually, but with pregnancy I've been digging the higher fat stuff.
EW! There is no way I could drink that! I don't drink anything other than skim milk. I'm not a big milk drinker to begin with, and skim is as thick as it gets for me! The fat is good for the baby when they turn a year old and need whole milk for a year. I have never heard that pregnant women should drink it. If anything it will cause pregnancy weight gain to be higher!

Skim milk is made from powders-it isn't the healthiest choice. I drink whole organic milk sparingly-it is the least processed and the most nutritious. I think almond milk is more healthy but I am not a fan.
I drink 1%. I prefer skim, but my DH prefers 2% so this is our compromise. I have never heard that pregnant women should drink whole milk. Toddlers should drink whole milk, because they need the fat to develop their brain, but I think most pregnant women get enough fat in their regular diet.

Yes, I believe it is. I think they're referring to whole milk when they say vitamin D milk because it is usually labeled as such.

Oh, I gotcha. In Canada, whole milk is called 'homogenized' so I was a bit confused. Thanks!
I drink skim. I could drink 1% easily or maybe even 2%, but there is no way I could stomach whole milk. We bought it when DD was a toddler, but she never even finished a quart before it expired (I was BFing too), so the only way I could use it up was to make hot chocolate with it. I don't think milk fat specifically is better for the baby's brain, anyway. I take omega-3 supplements for that.

I'm Lactose Intolerant, so I drink Fat Free Latcose-Free Milk. I assume that you are taking PNV. If so, they have calcium in them. Because of my LT, take an extra calcium vitamin, too.

I use to drink 2 percent, then when I was pregnant with my son I couldnt stand milk so I drank alot of chocolate milk, then Now I drink 1 percent and lactose free.
I drink 1%. Skim is too thin and whole is too thick. If the store is out of 1%, I'll get 2%. With the amount of milk I drink I don't worry about not getting my Vit. D.

I just read an article about this too. There's something with how the skim milk is processed that our bodies no longer recognize the proteins and can't use them correctly.
That being said, I only drink lattes - I can't stand regular milk anymore, so before preg, I would ask for skim, now I just get it with which ever milk they make it at starbucks or panera.

I just recently started to drink a lot of milk (8 glasses a day) and I switched from 1% to Skim to avoid extra fat intake. Normally, I've been drinking 1% or 2% milk.
Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin so you need to take it with fat for your body to able to absorb it. 2% should be fine but you will need to drink more milk to get the fat needed to absorb the vitamin D. I will for sure stay away from skim milk since you are no really going to absorb the vitamin D. I switch between 2% and full fat just in case

I think maybe she's confused. That's great advice for BABY when your LO is old enough to start on cow's milk. It's recommended that whole milk is given because they do need the fat. But this is not the case for pregnant moms.
My DD's ped asked me to not drink/eat cow milk for the remainder of this pregnancy or while nursing. He also doesn't want kids having cow milk until at least two.
I've typically been an Almond milk girl for liquid. I've made the switch to goat cheese/yogurt. I eat mostly veg anyway so it wasn't a huge move for me.
Re: what kind of milk do you drink?
I only ever drink 1% and did throughout both of my first two pregnancies and this one so far as well.
