Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Campfire help!!

We are going to the cottage tonight for the weekend and everyone will be gathered around the campfire. Does anyone know what you are supposed to do about baby and campfires? This will be the first time since DD was born that we will be around a campfire and I am worried about the smoke. TIA

Re: Campfire help!!

  • I put DS to bed in the PnP before we started the fire. I moved the PnP significantly away from the fire and in the opposite direction that the wind was blowing so he wouldnt get the smoke. I also put blankets over the top so mosquitos wouldn't get in.

  • We have a campfire in our neighborhood almost every weekend that we take DS to.  It's not a huge deal, just stay out of the smoke as much as possible and try not to burn anything toxic like plastic or styrofoam.

  • I don't know if there are any specific "rules", but I would sit a good 10-15 feet away from the fire, that way if the smoke comes your way it will be lifting at that poing. I've been camping my whole life, yet we have not taken DS this summer.
  • Thanks everyone!! Have a great weekend.
  • We've done campfires with baby.  We always figure out which way the breeze is blowing and make sure baby isn't going to sit downwind from it.  We usually park him in his playpen or on our laps.
