How difficult is it? I am wanting to start with veggies and I am going to borrow a steamer from inlaws but wont see them for over a week. I really dont want to start with a fruit but I am not sure how to make the food without a steamer. I am off to wholesome baby
Re: Anyone make baby food without a steamer?
I was told if you boil them in a minimal amount of water and use that water to puree, it's ok. The issue is nutrients leaking out, but they get leeched into the water, so if you're adding it back in anyhow, technically it should be ok! The exception is carrots, because the water will contain higher than recommended nitrates, so you'll want to dump that and use fresh water for making the puree.
You can always go to the dollar store and get a metal steamer basket that goes inside a reg pot!

I'd be careful about microwaving. It can take the nutrients out of the food you're making. See wholesomebabyfood.com. They don't recommend it as a cooking method either.
