Okay so I am a nanny and quick lunches are my thing. I am a sandwich gal all the way, do I really have to either cut them out of my diet or heat the turkey meat up? REALLY does it hurt the LO in my bella?
Well from everything I have read, it says you can eat them but to heat them up. The problem is being pregnant we are more likely to get certain problems that wouldnt usually affect us. Listeria is one of the problems associated with lunch meat...
I never heated lunch meat with DS and won't with this one. The thought of microwaved lunch meat makes me sick. I would just limit it to 3-4 times a week or cut down on portions. Make sure you are buying high quality meat, make sure it's fresh, etc.
I've heard of people eating it throughout their pregnancy and I never thought much of it. I remember one story though where a woman had lunchmeat later on in her pregnancy and she didn't realize it was contaminated by listeria. Her baby unfortunately passed away after she ate it.
Chance are EXTREMELY small that anything would happen to your baby...I'm just not chancing it. I love me some Jimmy John's so sometimes it's hard!
It's the risk of listeria, though small, but serious and nitrates (nitrites?). I think it's up to you what risks you are comfortable with taking. If it doesn't worry you, go for it. If you're going to feel guilty about it, then heat up the meat or just give it up altogether for the next few months.

Thanks ladies. I guess the way I look at it is, that I've been eating it all last week, well EOD, and have felt fine. I will cut down on it though. Yeah I am not a fan of warmed up meat, unless I make it a hot sandwich, okay that sounds good. I'll toast it all up and melt the cheese.....mmmmm. Lets hope the boys stay a sleep a little longer today.
My doc said that the meat that's pre packaged from the factory usually has enough preservatives in them that the risk are lower, he did caution me NOT to buy from the deli where they slice it for you, because it sits out, and probably not as well preserved.
Now I am going to follow his warning (yes I love Jimmy Johns and such but you don't know how well the food is taken care of... so if I crave that sandwich I will buy the prepackaged)
And like my mom said... women have been having baby's for years... stress will do more damage then some of the foods.

Confession...
I ate a turkey sandwich yesterday... it was delicious.
I do not plan on making it a habit, but it was fresh and great quality meat.

Lunchmeat is not even good for you, so it would be great if you could cut back anyway.
