telling your parents

We are telling our parents this weekend. Yes we want to do it this early, figured if anything were to happen we would really need their suport. Plus they all know we have been trying (this is our 10th month) so they ask us all they time. Sooo, if you how did you tell "grandma and grandpa"? If if you haven't how will you? Any other fun ideas for other VIP's?

Re: telling your parents

  • When I was preggers with my first, we gave them a card that said LOVE BABY

  • It's big to us to tell our families in person. But we want to wait a couple weeks. We'll probably just pick up some "Proud new grandma/pa" shirts and give them. I'd love to go see my family(they're closer) next weekend for Fathers Day. We will probably announce to the ILs when we go home next month for DH's grandparents big 50th bash.

ETA - I'm thinking for their anniversary we'll get them a big cake that says Happy Anni to the great grand parents(this will be their first grand baby).

  • We are making a card for my Dad for Father's day. It will read...

You are the best Pawpaw on Earth (with a picture of our DS) on the front and on the inside all it will say is x2! With an ultrasound picture! I cannot wait!!!!!!

And DS will have a shirt that says "Big Brother" that he'll wear to our annual 4th of July party. That is how extended family will find out! :-)

  • We had my parents, sister, and BIL over for coffee. All of them were on the couch playing with DD. I told them to smile for a picture, then said " on the count of three, everyone say Allison is pregnant!!!!" then snapped a picture. The look on their faces in that pic is priceless, it's going in the baby book.

  • We are telling tomorrow night! We made a bandana for my dog that says BIG SISTER:)

I took my test at about 4:45 am so I videoed myself waking DH up and showing him the test. Then we showed our parents the video to tell them! It's not clear what's going on until I pan over to the test so it was fun to see them go from confused to shocked!

  • With DS we gave each set of grandparents a frame that had a u/s pic and said "Baby S___ due in July" on it.

This time H just kind of blurted out that DS is going to be a big brother.  We plan on telling my parents next weekend. I have a u/s on Wed so hopefully I can have DS give them the pic.

  • Went over to in laws for parents -- his mother for sure was going to prepare the desserts so we put a book in the freezer so when she opened it - she saw the book. She kept crying and saying this better not be a joke, you better not be kidding guys as she was stomping her feet. Priceless and a perfect surprise -- we wanted the very second to be a complete surprise - it was.

  • I live 12 hours from my parents, so as much as I wanted to tell them in person, that wasn't feasible.  I designed tshirts on customgirl.com   (Mine said "coming soon" and had baby foot prints on the belly, and H's said "future daddy" with a stork carrying a baby)  I took a picture of us wearing our shirt and I called my dad and asked him to go next to my mom so I could text them a picture of a house project, and instead sent them the picture of us.   It was pretty perfect for us.

I do love that picture idea though- it would be wonderful to capture the expressions on everyone's faces at that moment.  Definitely something to treasure!

  • My parents passed away 6 years ago, and we aren't close to Hs parents, so we haven't told them yet. ?But we did do something for our older close friends (sort of our pseudo-parents who will be grandparents to our baby).

They are my brother's in-laws, and have been a huge part of our lives since I moved to San Diego (we eat dinner with them once a week, she bought my wedding dress for me, etc.). ?When my brother and their daughter got married in January, she spoke at the wedding and spoke about the importance of the table in their lives, how their family has grown around dinners, etc.

So anyway, we wrapped a little bowl and cup, and wrote a card saying "Will you set one more place at your table for us?". ?They were so excited :) ? We are having their first 'grandbaby'. ?

  • We have a 9 year old daughter and I ordered her an "I'm going to be a big sister" t-shirt.  When we tell her, I'll wrap the shirt and she'll find out when she opens it.  To tell my family, I'll have her wear it to my parents' house.  :)

  • We're telling our parent's on Father's Day. We're going to sign our dad's cards with me and DH's names and "baby". I can't wait to see their reactions!

  • We're telling our parents on Saturday and I'm SO excited! For DH's parents we have a fun way to tell them - there are a lot of significant dates in their family on "6th"s (their anniversary, our anniversary, DH's birthday, and SIL's anniversary - all different months) and I'm due on Feb 6th, so we're going to tell them that they need to add Feb 6th to their list of significant dates in our family, and see how long it takes them to figure it out. We're guessing my FIL will get it right away, but will probably wait to see long it takes my MIL - she's not so good with hints and the family finds it quite entertaining Stick out tongue

  • My parents live on the same street and every now and then we will get each other's mail or take deliveries for each other.  I was toying with the idea of making up one of those slips that delivery companies leave (like UPS) ...sorry we missed you, we will re-attempt delivery, etc.  Instead of a normal slip, it would be of a stork carrying a baby, would have our name/address, and the "we will re-attempt delivery date" will be the due date.  I don't know the last time I have seen my mother run, but I bet she gets to our house in 5 seconds flat!  I just can't decide if it's too silly...  thoughts?
