How to wash car seat straps?

Horrible, no good, very bad morning.

Ty got sick in the car. All over. It's beyond disgusting.

How to wash the car seat straps? They are covered/soaked in vomit. Sorry if TMI. I have BOTH car seat covers in the wash- it soaked/leaked thru to the very bottom. Ugh.

Re: How to wash car seat straps?

  • First of all, I am so sorry!!!

Not really sure how to "wash" them. Can you get them really wet with detergent mixed with water in a spray bottle. Then scrub them for a looong time. Not really sure...

  • Thank you for asking this. This happened to DS last night too. So far I've just spot cleaned the chunky stuff off with a paper towel. I'm looking for the same information for a deep cleaning.

  • I just read an article saying not to actually "wash" the straps. Someone suggested using baby wipes. Another person suggested a sponge and mild soap water. Hmmm....

It also looks like you can order a new harness from the manufacturer for about $20 with shipping if it is just hopeless. Just don't throw them in the washing machine.

  • I put ours in the washer last week after Katie had a blowout.

  • You have a Marathon right? I just read the manual. It says to NOT remove the harness straps or wash them in the washer. It just mentions sponging them clean and towel drying.

I also read that someone used a toothbrush. That is what I would do. I would use a toothbrush and some laundry detergent/water solution and scrub them clean. It there is still a smell maybe use some Febreeze afterwards.

Once again I am so sorry. I would have tossed my cookies by now. I HATE vomit!!!

  • Ugh, sorry April!  Is he ok?

I have just used water, papertowels and baby wipes.  If they still smell, put some Febreez on them.

  • I do have a Marathon.

I know the manual says not to remove the sraps; however, they were in sad shape and needed a good soak. I soaked them in hot water and a bit of Baby Oxy Clean, scrubbed with a toothbrush, and rinsed. The smell and yuck seems to have come out. I have a feeling they don't want you to remove the straps as they don't want to be liable for them being put back in the right way.

    Thanks guys!

And Jessica, I am so not a fan of vomit. I nearly tossed my cookies a number of times. Luckily, both Ty and I have showered and I feel a million times better. Now, to put the car seat back together....like Humpty Dumpty.

Oh, geez! You poor thing! I'm a sympathy-gagger/vomiter so my hats off to you for doing so well with it. I hope it goes back together smoothly. ?

I think you're right about the liability thing.  When we got the carseat from our neighbor, that thing was disgusting...it got stripped down to bare plastic and everything got scrubbed - including the straps.  The didn't shrink or stretch or anything as far as I could tell and I compared them to our original seat.
Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.
