2nd Trimester

Does anyone else have a swollen "area"

I made a disturbing discovery this evening! I looked at my vagina and it was swollen! I looked absolutely disturbing! Is anyone else having this problem? I dont remember this happening when I was pregnant with my daughter. This is a new thing for me, and I don't know it this is normal, especially in my 2nd trimester.

  • I just thought maybe my underwear was getting smaller haha. I never considered that maybe it's just a little swollen. Hmm...interesting.

  • I def hope it's normal, cause I"ve got it too.  And I do remember it happening with DD also cause I remember warning a friend of the things that happen when you're preg that you never expected, talking about this specific thing!

  • I too, am hoping it's "normal" (is there such a thing during pregnancy??). At this phase none of the symptoms are really phasing me and I do my best to just laugh about it (because really almost anything I've experienced beyond 3 months straight of horrible morning sickness is laughable in comparison.... imo) but I keep telling my husband, Mom.. anyone who will listen that my vagina seriously feels swollen and bruised.. like riding a bike 20km after not biking in ages.

I do wonder with 3 months left to go why exactly is it necessary. Perhaps thing are just stretching out/getting ready? Anyways, I feel your pain! Tempted to sit on an ice pack at night sometimes, but I also heard sitting on cold surfaces causes hemorrhoids but that could totally be an old wive's tale.

  • totally normal.  mine isn't yet this time around but i am sure it won't be much longer until it swells up.  i think it has to do with the amount of fluids/blood in your body.

not to worry, it goes right back to normal after you have LO.

  • Mine is swollen, so I asked my doctor and he said it was perfectly normal.  It's very disturbing.

  • Isn't it a result of increased blood flow to that "area".  I am glad you all agree its kind of gross.

  • I can't really see mine anymore, but it certainly feels a little swollen down there. :/

  • Yep, mine is swollen. It makes sex difficult and uncomfortable. I believe it's from the extra blood volume, but not sure on that.

  • Swollen crotch, forgot about this part of pregnancy.  My vag definitely feels puffy and unattractive.  It does go back to normal, this is true!

  • Oh yeah - it's totally unrecognizable both by me & my DH. Not that I can see it anymore :)

The one good thing for me anyway is that it makes sex a totally different experience. I feel everything so much more intensely now - though sometimes a little too intensely.

  • Ya, I finally went to see my doctor about it and he said it was normal, and if its getting too swollen then that is the baby telling me to sit down and put my feet up. It is definitely weird, and sometimes so swollen it hurts. Definitely not attractive or sexy in anyway! I feel bad for my husband because he hears about all these weird and disturbing things that are happening to my body!
