Success after IF

recommend your shapewear (sigh)

I have always resisted the idea of Spanx or something similar. I get tummy aches when wearing tight clothes and didn't want to admit that I was jiggly. However, now that summer is here my jiggly belly is more noticeable, and I really want to avoid the dreaded "are you pregnant" question. So...recommend some lightweight shapewear I could wear under summer dresses and pants to smooth out the lumps...maybe someone can help me find some if we go shopping during the GTG weekend?

You're going to the GTG?  You're my hero - I can barely get out of the house still.

Anyway, I tried spanx for a wedding and I hated it, so uncomfortable!  Hope someone has a better suggestion.

  • Target has some spanx-like products.  I bought a cami there to go under a dress last summer.  It wasn't too bad. It kind of smooshed up my boobs, but that was my only complaint.

The babies are totally "self-sufficient" now, so it's easier to get out of the house - they can hold their own bottles, eat finger foods, and crawl/walk around the house. Of course they also fight every diaper and clothing change so those are wrestling matches. If I don't get out of the house every so often I'll go insane. Still debating whether to stay one night or two at the GTG though.

  • I tried wearing spanx for a wedding. I nearly had to have them cut off my body before I lost all circulation in my crotchial region :/

  • The key to Spanx is to avoid the temptation to get them too tight.  If you're on the border of sizing and you don't need them to get into a pant or dress size smaller, just look better in clothes that otherwise fit, go up a size no down.  That said, my favorite shapewear is not Spanx it's Anne Klein.  It's a smooth stretchy silky material, not like pantyhose, and it has no seams on the thighs to cut into you.  Very comfy and really keeps clothing gliding over your body.    I always buy the bike short version but I do also have some that come up to my bra band, and those really are ok, you'd think they'd roll down but they don't.  However, if your bra is ill-fitting this type of shapewear exarcebates that so...my 2 cents, buy a great fitting bra and some bike short type shapewear.  Good luck!

Ugh, I hear you. Target has some that are a little lighter than Spanx and reasonably priced.

. Where do you buy the Anne Klein?

  • I don't think the Target Spanx (Assets, i think) do enough good to be worth the trouble. I wear original Spanx, and agree the key is to not buy them too small.
  • Yep, been there done that! I found the actual spanx brand and target ones to be too tight. I also feel sore when wearing something tight around my stomach, and especially my c section scar. I bought a few pairs from the jockey outlet or one of those underwear stores. I'm pretty sure it was jockey or playtex (I would check but they are packed away currently). I could tell right away when trying them on rather or not they would be comfie, you'll feel the difference between too tight and fitted.

  • I actually love my spanx, but the girl advised me that they run small and to buy a size up.  Mine come up to my bra line and are shorts.  LOVE them.

  • I wear the tank tops only every.single.day. I've got some at Target and some at Kohls. I like the Kohls ones the best. They are tight enough that they suck me in but not so bad that they are constraining my waist/stomach. I like that they are long enough that I can pull them over my hips too. They really do a good job of sucking me in where I need it... until I get my tummy tuck. Stick out tongue
