Did you sign a prenup?

Re: Did you sign a prenup?

  • I don't think there will be a need for a prenup when we finally get around to getting hitched. The only things we own worth more than a couple grand are the two cars that are in my name, and it's been pretty much agreed upon that if we split for good, we're basically gonna walk away with what we both own and not add to the drama by hounding each other for shiz.

  • The issue came up because I own 15% of my family's company. In the end we didn't sign one, but he wasn't objecting it.

  • Yes I did.   I also had my own attorney look it over before I signed it.  My DH and I were older when we married- he had "family" money, a business, and property. I come from very humble beginnings- I was making enough in my social service job to support myself and my dog  He had a nasty divorce 10 years previous- so he was just protecting his family property(been in the family for generations).
  • Yes we did because I come from a family with $$$ and DH doesn't. It was the only way my family would support the marriage and not kick me out will. I also got my grandmothers house when she passed and I didnt want to loose it There is something in it for my DH should I ever leave him without cause.

  • Super late to the post but I have a question for those of you that said you would not under any circumstances sign one...what if you were marrying someone with significant assets and significant family assets and it was required by the family not your DH?  Would you walk away from your one true love over the refusal to sign the document?

I think that in most cases, when presented with that situation (which I was) that we would all sign.  Ultimately, I signed one because I know that it will never be used and if it is, I would only want to walk away with what was mine not "steal" family assets or money my DH had prior to my existance in his life.
