Honda pilot or odyssey?

Dh is trading in his tiny Saturn next weekend. He was able to get a good deal for his trade and we are debating between the two. The pilot has the 3rd row and decent room and the odyssey has tons of space. I am leaning towards the mini van. Our kids are small now but I think as they grow we will have wished we gotten the mini van if we don't. Dh isn't sold on being a " mini van" driver.

Re: Honda pilot or odyssey?

  • get the odyssey. My cousin HAD the odyssey and traded it for the pilot and regrets it. She says the 3rd row seat is pretty useless unless you want to climb in through the trunk. it barely fits 3 carseats in the front row too. Her odyssey was amazing in every way. We are looking at vans too but the odyssey is out of our price range :(

  • I LOOOVE love love love my Pilot.  But I would still get the Odyssey.  We bought our Pilot back before we were even thinking of kids and all we had was a big dog.  It still works for us and we are fine, but if I were to buy a new car at this point in my life I would probably do a mini van.  As it stands, we likely won't get a van, and the Pilot works perfectly fine for a few kids, but it isn't as convenient as the minivan.

On the other hand, I like the looks of the Pilot a lot better.  But right now convenience rules the day! :)  Good luck with your choice!  You really can't go wrong.

  • Odyssey! While on vacation last week we rented a mini van and it was great being able to hit a button to have the doors open and DD could climb into her seat on her own while I get DS buckled into his seat.

We're home now and back to my Equinox and I'm missing the mini-van. I NEVER wanted to be a mini-van Mom, but it's just so much more convenient.

  • Odyssey! You won't regret it. The third row in the Pilot looks tiny in comparison.

  • Pilot.  But only because I'd never in a billion years drive a van.  If you're cool with it, then go for it.

  • How funny.. b/c my DH wants the Odyssey and I want the Pilot!  I just don't want a minivan and don't want to give up my all wheel drive for snowy winters.  I think the Sienna has that, so we might go with that.  good luck with your choice.

  • With 3 you might be happier with the Oddyssy. I have a Pilot and LOVE it. If we have 3 I'll keep it for a while, but the Oddyssy or another minivan will be my next jump. Right now I like my Pilot because it allows us more flexibility with passengers. I have the two car seats on the 60-part of the 60/40 split and we then have access to the third row for extra passengers (which we do have often). If I had a mini van I wouldn't have that flex because the car seats would take up the captain's chairs and not allow access to the back seats. A friend of mine with 3 kids has a van and they removed one 2nd row chair to allow easy access to car seats in the back.

I have ZERO complaints about my Pilot, but I *think* in your situation you might like the Oddyssy better.

  • Odyssey. DH bought me one 3 weeks ago and I LOVE it!!!! I am a honda girl. In the last 5 years I've had a Civic and then a Cr-V and now the Odyssey. The Cr-V was to small as it was because DD would kick the back of my seat, I couldn't have the cargo divider up w/ the double stroller so groceries spilled everywhere. We couldn't take the dogs. We checked out the Pilot because that was what I intended on having next and here is surprise #3....so we compared and the cargo space in the back is so much more! It's amazing. It'll be great for family vacations, when the kids are older and in sports, for taking their friends places (I plan on having this one for like 10 years LOL). I fold down the 3rd row and there's still room for my double stroller, my 110lb rottweiler and my 65lb lab mix and they can LAY down comfortably! It's the only mini van on the market that legally (and comfortably) holds 3 car seats in the 2nd row. No captains chairs. Which is a huge asset for me. It's smooth and I love it. I never thought I'd be a mini van mom but here I am and I couldn't imagine it any other way.

  • It depends on where you live, do you require awd? If you don't probably Odyssey, I know a family with 5 kids (only one in a car seat) and they all fit in fine. If you need awd and want a van, the Sienna is the only option, but you can only get awd on the 7 seater model. My brother with 5 kids just went through this, so I was helping him look around. I had to use our pilot to take my brother's three youngest (5 and 3 in boosters and a 9 month old in a backward convertible seat) for the day, major pain. We couldn't fit a proper stroller in anywhere. Never noticed how little room it had until we shoved a few kiddie seats in. HTH
  • Back again :)

Just looked at the ages of your kids, I would suggest the van, you'll have a double stroller I would assume, and possible two rear facing car seats, I just can't see it fitting well. At 5 9 I couldn't have a rear facing convertible behind me as the driver, and my passenger at 5 3 was very squished.
