Reading has been my hobby since I was a very small child. I think that in the next nine months I will have to cram as many books as possible in, who knows how much reading time a newborn will allow?
I just finished Water for Elephants, and I am looking for a new book to read. Any suggestions?
Re: Who else loves to read?
Ooooh me! My mom used to have to lock away my books because I wouldn't do my homework.
I haven't read Water for Elephants yet but I really am wanting to....have you read The Count of Monte Cristo? My fave. Other suggestions are An Army of Angels(based on Joan of Arc), Jane Eyre, Any book by Jane Austen, The Princess Bride, Life of Pi...
Right now I'm reading The Last of the Mohicans haha
What genres are you interested in? I loved Firefly Lane, but it's definitely a "chick book" haha

At 40w6d, our Team Green surprise came by unplanned C-section and changed our lives forever!
Those sound like some great suggestions, I will have to check them out. Has anyone read The Help by Katherine Stockett, it is one of my favorite books. Also anything my Francine Rivers.
Water for Elephants was a bit... racy for my taste.
Three was really good, the twist in the end mind blowing!
I LOVE Francine Rivers. Her Mark of the Lion series I've probably read over 5 times over the years haha.
YES!
I love love love those books. I am actually wondering if Hadassah will make it onto our name list
I try to read them once a year!!
hahaha that would be AMAZING!
A kindle! So jealous! I bought a Nook before me moved to Africa, but we got a lemon. It stopped working after a few months. I hate that stupid thing!
I love to read, I got a Kindle for Christmas and I've been reading even more since getting it, best present ever!
Also, loved Water for Elephants too, I read it twice once a couple of months ago and then again before I went to see the movie when it came out.
I am currently mostly reading pregnancy related books: 1)The Pregnancy Journal by A.Christine Harris (I read it every day to see what will be happening the next day), 2) Taboo Secrets of Pregnancy by Michelle Smith
When I'm not reading through the pregnancy books, I am reading The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman (it was recommended on TTGP and I really like it so far).
If you like chick lit, I also really liked Mini Shopaholic: by Sophie Kinsella.
I read a wide variety of books. I prefer them not to have loads of sex of language in them though. I especially like books set in historical times.
Also pride and prejudice and zombies was pretty awesome.
I was just going to post on The Help. I LOVED that book and definitely tops my list of all time favorite books! I recommend to everyone I know. Such a good one! If you liked The Help, I am reading Saving CeeCee Honeycutt right now, and it has the same "feeling" as The Help. It isn't very long either, so if you need a quick read, it is a good one!
Ditto The Help, Dragon Tattoo and Hunger Games trilogies. So great.
I just read Firefly Lane and liked it a lot.
Zeitoun was pretty good - about a man and his family's experience during Hurricane Katrina.
Glass Castle is just one of my all time favorites.
I have Water for Elephants on my nightstand, going to read it after I finish Mini Shopaholic lol.

I LOVE reading! So relaxing...I'm jealous of you girls with e-readers, I just haven't been able to give up paper books yet, though.
Firefly Lane was good, but I ugly cried for the whole last section of the book. So sad!
LOVED Water for Elephants. The Help was interesting... I liked the changing voices, but wasn't sure how I felt about the way it dealt with race relations.
Other recent favorites: Little Bee by Chris Cleave, Bean trees (Kingsolver), Olive Kitteridge, The red tent (Diamonte), and Middlesex. I'm currently working on Tinkers and What to expect when you're expecting
Anyone interested in a book club?
I love reading. I also just finished Water for Elephants, and I really enjoyed it. What did you think?
Have you read Snowflower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See? It's a really good read, and I am finding that I really enjoy that author. What type of books do you like? PM me if you would like to talk about books more.

Yes! I was hoping we could get one started!
I randomly picked up a book by him...Skin. It was pretty crazy! I actually kind of forgot about it until I read this post. I may need to check out Three.
I am currently reading Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy. It is a quick and easy read. It is a funny, brutally gross look at pregnancy...I love it!!
I like to read, too! Right now I am reading Feed the Belly and What to Expect When You're Expecting and The Reading Promise but I finished the second book in the Carrie Diaries series last week, Summer in the City and loved it (if you're a SATC fan, you've got to read this series). I have a bunch on my shelf to read that I recently purchased:
The Five Love Languages
If You Were Here (Jen Lancaster---love all of her books!)
The Happiest Baby on the Block
For those of you who enjoy reading and look forward to reading to your LO, I would suggest The Reading Promise by Alice Ozma. It is basically about her time growing up with her father reading to/with her. It is making me excited to build a library for our future LO.
I teach middle school reading so a lot of my "all-time" favorite books are youth/adolescent literature like Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko.
Another recent adult book that I read and enjoyed was Wally Lamb's She's Come Undone.
If any one is looking for a light-hearted novel about pregnancy, I would recommend A Bump in the Road: From Happy Hour to Baby Shower by Maureen Lipinski and the sequel Not Ready for Mom Jeans.
Also gonna put these out there for their amazing silliness and greatness:
1. The Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger. I am a huge steampunk fan (nerdy, I know) and this series is so funny. It combines Victorian society, a tiny bit of steampunk and supernaturals (vampires and werewolves) in an amazingly humorous way. The first book is called Soulless and I think it's a must if you're a fan of historical fiction and paranormal fiction. There is a little bit of sexy time, but it's definitely not smutty nor gratuitous (Not that I'm against smut. I read a ton of historical romance novels as many vacations between other books and can totally recommend those too.)
2. Anything by Jasper Fforde. He's well known for the Thursday Next series which is genius. It makes fun of books and society and seriously funny. The main character Thursday, is a Literatec, a literary detective. I also recommend Shades of Grey by him which is about a dystopia after The Thing That Happened, where people can only see certain colors. It's absurdist, but really good. Just be prepared to get angry at the end.
Sorry for writing a ton! I just really like books!
I think this would be an awesome idea!
Ztalady---have you ever read The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova? I read it about a year ago. It was REALLY good and sounds right up your alley!
I would love this!

Currently listening to: The Dark Divine by Bree Despain
my currently-reading shelf:
I love the idea of a book club! The Red Tent is sitting on my bookshelf right now, it will probably be my next read.
Ooh! I will have to look into those.
I know this has been mentioned lots but I just wanted another vote in there for "The Hunger Games" Those books seriously sucked me in! I cant wait for the movie to come out!
I love Francine Rivers, my favorite is Redeeming Love.
I also really enjoyed "something borrowed" by Emily Giffin, I havent read "something blue" yet.
I've actually been in a book club with friends the past 1.5 years.. here are some of the ones we've read that have been favorites:
Ape House (also wrote Water for Elephants)
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (the first 150 pages are tedious, but then you can't put it down, and the rest of the series don't have the long boring intro)
Life of Pi (I really liked this one)
Shadow of the Wynd (kind of a drama/mystery/suspense, it was kind of divisive in the group)
Sarah's Key, The Book Thief (these are both WWII books, I liked the second one better, Sarah's Key was a little too sad for me)
Hunger games - this is our current book, went through it in two days and am reading the rest of the series now
Those are the only ones I can remember off the top of my head. Here are ones I've read on my own...
The Outlander (about a woman who travels in time back to the Scottish Uprising, historical fiction, loved the entire series)
The Room - I really liked the concept of the story being told through a five year old
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time - really good
Jean Auel - Clan of the Cave Bear - the entire series is good
Ilona Andrews - if you like sci-fi/fantasy, good strong female protagonist
Elizabeth Moon - also does sci-fi/tantasy with strong females
On my to-read list:
The Other Boelyn Girl
The Girl with the Pearl Earring
The Little Giant of Aberdeen County
Auto-Biography of Mark Twain (it's huuuuge! It's fascinating so far though, very easy to set down and pick up again)
