Baby Names

Quinn Aubrielle Rae

Looking for unsolicited opinions.  Aubrey and Rae are two very close long-term friends of mine.  Aubrey will be LO's godmother.  Therefore, Aubrielle and Rae are staying.  I love Quinn.  Zara was the runner-up.

WDYT?  Keeper if LO is a girl?

Re: Quinn Aubrielle Rae

  • Not a fan of Quinn, but not horrid.  Aubrielle is not the same name as Aubrey and I like Aubrey better.  So your child will have two middle names?
  • Loading the player...
  • I like Quinn, really don't like Aubrielle (love Aubrey) and if you're going to have 2 middle names, then at least Rae is short.

  • I don't like the DB MN, but Rae is short so that's the only reason I'm considering it.

Quinn Aubrey Rae doesn't seem to flow as well IMO.  Idk what it is about it, but Aubrielle seems to include the honored person's name without copying it exactly.  It adds the essence of Aubrey without being blatant.

I like the name, I just don't want to have a baby, name it that and THEN be told that it's an awful name.

    My solicited opinion:

    1. I don't like 3 names.
    2. Aubrey is a much nicer name than Aubrielle.
    3. Rae is fine, but NMS.
    4. Quinn is fine, but NMS.

Why not just Aubrey (or Aubrielle if you insist) Rae?

  • No one understands that Aubrey and Rae are the people I'm honoring.  I can't name LO right after someone else and call LO that.  I know what it's like to have a super common name that gets shared with everyone.  I don't want my best friend and my kid to have the same name.
  • I think Quinn is a boy name, and don't like it for a girl.  If you like it, I would do Quinn Aubrey.  Just wait for another baby to use Rae, you don't have to use it all on one baby.

Or if you are going to make up a weird name, do Aubrae instead... they you don't have to worry about changing Aubrey to Aubrielle.... and having 2 middle names.

  • I LOVE the name Quinn and think it can go both girl and boy.  I once read a book where the little girl was Aquinnah and went by Quinn.  I actually would consider it for our DS#2, but it is really funny when combined with our DS#1's name.

Anyway, I like the idea of going with Aubrae. While I am not usually a fan of made up names, I think exceptions can be made for middle names.

  • Ehhhh... I don't really like Aubrae... :/
  • I know they're not the same name.  She's not ASKING me to name my kid after her.  I'm doing it because she's a good friend of mine and she's a positive influence.  She's also being asked to be LO's godmother.

Rae is short, easy, and simple.  It's not the other friend's first name either.  It's her middle name.

No we get that you want to honor this person. Aubrielle is just bad. Sorry. Does Aubrey not have a middle name, too? Are there no other choices?

  • IMO, Aubrielle is a form of Aubrey.  Sure, I might go with Aubrey itself, but it would still be honoring her.

I'm not trying to be super defensive.  I'm super sick and feel like crap.  I'm sorry.

I don't like people being rude.  If someone doesn't like something, they should just say "NMS or NMSAA but its your kid so whatever" KWIM?  Not, "Oh why are you naming your kid two boys names and a made up name?" when Quinn is unisex, Rae is a form of Rachel and Aubrielle is a form of Aubrey and a combination of Aubrey and Gabrielle and means "Noble Ruler" (according to my research, I could be wrong.)

Again, sorry for being defensive.  I'm not trying to be a ***.

Edit:  Aubrey's middle name is Jordan which is NOT a name I want to name my kid.  Quinn Jordan sounds like a boy's name IMO since they're both unisex, but Jordan has always been more boyish than Quinn to me.

  • I think that you are honoring her enough by making her the godmother.

    Quinn Rae is fine.
    Quinn Rachel is even better.

Feelings about the name "Aubrielle" aside, Quinn Aubrey Rae sounds so much better than Quinn Aubrielle Rae.

Then use Aubrey, not some faux-version of it.  And not a very nice faux-version at that.  Quinn Aubrey Rae.  Done.

If you don't want them to have the same name, why are you attempting to use a butchered version of her name? I'm sorry, but when you're trying to honor someone you use their ACTUAL name. Not something that kind of sounds like their name.

I guess I'm the only one, but I kind of agree with OP. I don't think Quinn Aubrey Rae flows very well. I think Aubrielle sounds a lot better. The name definitely isn't my style, but I don't think it sounds bad at all.

Additionally, a PP mentioned that Aubrey would feel slighted if you didn't give your child her exact name. Personally, I would find it a bit odd if my bff named her child after me exactly. I think its nice to have a piece of her name to honor her (yes, even though it's not exact, I think it still honors the person). It still allows your child to have her own name and know that she was named for 2 special people in her life.

In a nutshell, I think that if you like the name, then go for it! I love Quinn (and honestly, I've never met a boy Quinn, and know 2 girls with this name) and I think the name flows fine.

  • I think what most people are trying to get at is this - why are you ok with using one friend's middle name and not change it, but then change the name of the other friend? You have yet to really answer that. IMO using a "form" of a name doesn't honor the person because it's not their actual name - only exceptions are when you are honoring a person of the opposite gender than the child, hence why DD's MN is Jean, and not Gene - it's the same name, but the feminine spelling.

Another thing is why do you have to honor both friends with one child's name? Are you not planning/considering having more children?

  • Sorry, not a fan of any part of the name.

Wow, that is  a lot of name.  I think Rachel Aubreille is a very pretty name and if you really wanted to thow Quinn in the front of that the whole thing would flow a lot nicer than Quinn Aubrielle Rae. I am not of the opinion that you have to use the very same name as the person that is being honored.  ( Daughters NM is Bryar, she is named after my DH whose FN is Bryan , and Bryar means Heather in french albeit a convoluted connection, which is my name )

Actually, a lot of people on this board find "NMS" to be really unhelpful feedback.  When you ask for opinions, you get opinions.

Anyway, I won't comment on the Aubrielle Rae part, since it's the MN and is honoring people, but I wanted to say that I like Zara way, way better than Quinn.

  • I'm using one friend's middle name and I was going to make the other middle name a form of the other friend's name along with making her the godmother.  That's why I was okay with it -- I was using a form of her first name AND making her the godmother while using the other friend's middle name as DD's middle name.  That's why I was okay with only using part of her name, whichever way you want to look at it.  She's not uptight enough to care that it's only part of her name because the intent was to honor her.

I didn't want to call the baby Aubrey or Rae or Aubrielle because it would be too confusing to have two Aubrey's running around or two Rae's running around.  The baby would go by Quinn, her first name.  Her middle name(s) would just honor people close to us.

Edit:  I guess I could leave out Aubrey altogether since she'll be godmother and just use Quinn Shelbi (which is Rae's first name) or Quinn Rae.  I don't particularly like Rachel and that's not really close enough for my taste because only the first two letters are in the name.

So that leaves me with the options of:

    Quinn Aubrielle Rae Walker
    Quinn Aubrey Rae Walker
Quinn Rae Walker (which doesn't flow well IMO)
    Quinn Shelbi Walker

Aubrielle = pageant contestant with a side of trailer mermaid pixie dust.  Sorry, it just sounds made up and low class.  Ideas I like better: Brielle (I usually dislike this name but I like it more than Aubrielle), Auburn, Audrey, Autumn

THIS. Aubrielle is horrible. I don't think there is any good combination for all three names, but I like Aubrey Quinn together. Aubrey Rae doesn't flow well and neither does Quinn Rae. I like Rae for a middle name (it's my middle name Smile) and it's nice you want to honor your friend, but why not save it for another child?

Three names doesn't bother me in the slightest. :) In some cultures, you get an entire string of names! So I say don't worry about that - plus there's meaning to the names.

Fwiw, I think Quinn Aubrey Rae sounds lovely. It flows. You have alternating syllable lengths and varied sounds - important factors in making names flow together. "Aubrielle" does put things a little over the top for me, and I don't think it's necessary. But it's not the worst name I've ever heard and it will be her middle name so most people won't even hear it said.

  • Thanks for the input.  I was originally just going to go with Quinn Aubrielle but then wanted to add Rae at the last minute.  I thought about Quinn Aubrey but I didn't think it flowed.  Quinn Aubrey Rae does flow a bit better.

but Aubrielle ISN'T a form of Aubrey. It's a made up name. Even Neveah (one of the most ridiculous made up names ever) is in the behind the name database...Aubrielle is not.

I can't understand what's confusing about a child and a woman atleast 18 years older having the same name. Will she be spending all her time with those women? No. There's nothing confusing about it. Oh well- Idk why you asked opinions since you've already made up your mind.

Love Quinn, it's on our list. I prefer Quinn Aubrey Rae or as pper said Quinn Aubrey or Quinn Rae and save the other name for the next child. It would be nice to be able to have some meaning to both children's names, unless you only plan to have one. Rae would be a nice one to save because you could use it for a mn for a boy or girl on the next one. Overall I don't think its awful if you use Aubrielle Rae, it's not like anyone ever goes by their middle name anyway and if it is what you want it's not like its a crazy awful name that everyone will hate. GL!

My names is Rachel and I can tell you that Rae is not a form of it. No one in my entire life - home, school, college, work - has ever called me Rae and if they did I would be like "Um, who are you speaking to because that is not my name."

I also agree with PP on the Aubrielle. I like Rae fine enough, but I think Quinn is a boy's name that Glee has only continued to make ok for girls.

  • i have a family member named audrey rae, so i think aubrey rae flows just fine. aubrielle sounds completely made up. it's a ridiculous name. aubrey is a name, brielle is a name. aubrielle is not a name.

and wait - rae is for rachel? if you want to honor someone use their name. don't make something up that sort of honors them. "sort of" defeats the purpose. i don't know what to tell you. clearly you aren't liking the responses you're getting here, but maybe you should think about that. people are going to judge you and your child for the rest of their life about her name. get used to it.

It's a name you suggested. The PP said that Quin Shelbi was a better name in her opinion. You asked for unsolicted opinions and got it. There is no need to get defensive when PP gives you what you asked for.

  • Where did I suggest it?

The point of a thread like this is to get creative juices flowing, not unnecessarily bash people.

And there is a MAJOR difference between unsolicited opinions and bitchy and snarky opinions.  There is also a major difference between being polite and being mean and unnecessarily cruel.  I fully intended on going with the name in the OP until a few kinder ladies pointed out that Aubrey Rae sounded okay.  I didn't know I brought it up, but I don't mind taking credit for it.
