North Shore, Mass. need help with ob/gyn

Ok, so here is a lot of craziness and if you read through it all and can help I greatly appreciate it. So my husband in Oct. moved to the South Shore (Mass.) area, shortly after we found out we were pregnant. I decided to stick out the year teaching in WNY and then move when school was done. I got all the arrangments made for the South Shore, but not that its coming down to moving time and stuff we are stuck because his lease isn't up until the end of July and our house hasn't sold yet in WNY.

I could move into his apt. on the South Shore, but they don't accept dogs. So my parents offer me to stay with them, which is great, but they are on the North Shore. So instead of having to go Dr. appts. on the South Shore once a week and then deliever there (which would mean being in labor and having to drive through Boston at god knows what hour), I thought it would make the most sense to have the baby on the North Shore 15 minutes away from my parents house where I will be living until LO arrives.

So my question is...anyone from Mass. who is on the North Shore would you mind sharing your ob/gyn. I have no idea where to start, seeing as how for the South Shore I got recommendations from friends, but none of my friends on the North Shore have had babies and their ob/gyn's don't deliever....I would need a few options because I need to make sure they'll accept my health insurance, as well as DH's which I would be switching to in July, once mine is up.

Again, sorry so long, but thanks for any help/ideas/suggestions you have!

Can you give a general area of where you live? I go to Concord OB-GYN and they're awesome.

  • I used to work in Salem Mass in the Birth Place at Salem Hospital and I loved it there...it was a while ago so I don't remember specific names of providers from that hospital but you could always call and ask!

  • I'm in the Cape Ann area....I was thinking of Beverly Hospital. I've looked up their website and found Dr.'s who practice there, but I was hoping that someone would have a recommendation. I'm very weary of Dr.'s since my first pregnancy was a miscarriage and the Dr. was a complete a$$hole and left me a messege about how I lost the baby on a voicemail and then was gone for the weekend...I was PISSED. So now I'm much more picky about Dr's.

  • Hi (and welcome to the North Shore!)  I am only an occasional lurker here, but wanted to suggest Essex County OBGYN.  I live/work in the Cape Ann area, went to them when I was pregnant with my last child (delivered at Beverly Hospital --- they have an office there, or one near the LIberty Tree Mall in Danvers), and am currently going there (30 w pregnant with my second child).  They are fantastic!  I've always met with the midwives, but the one OB I met was also really nice.
  • I am delivering at Beverly and go to Essex County OBGYN.  I see Dr. DiLillo and I absolutely LOVE him! I have also seen a few of the other ob's and one of the midwives throughout my pregnancy and I would recommend any one of them.  The nurses and office staff are amazing as well.  I have tons of friends and coworkers (I work in a hospital, but not Beverly) and thats where everyone goes.  And if you need a pediatrician, Garden City Pediatrics is right downstairs from the office right on the hospital campus.

I have had to make a few trips to L&D for NST's and a level 2 ultrasound and all of the nurses that I have encountered there are awesome as well!

     Good Luck!

  • Mine is north of Boston but not really North Shore. I go to Dr. Sandra Nagler in North Reading, MA. She is affiliated with Winchester Hospital which is one of the best hospitals in the area I've heard (and has one of the best NICU's). She is kind of stone faced but also really good if you can get past that. She is the OB for all of my IL's basically haha.
  • Thanks ladies...I called Essex County and got all set up! They were very nice and helpful. I appreciate all the input!

I'll definitely look into Garden City Pediatrics as well!
