BH and LO activity sudden increase...

Hi gals... First off, I'm going to call the doctor as soon as they open tomorrow - so I'm not going to ask what I should do but I wanted to pick brains (and maybe get some "me toos") about today.

LO has been active ALL day. And when I mean its been all day, its been consistent every hour. Kicking, rolling, etc. She is usually fairly quiet throughout the day.

And I've been getting BH like crazy - I think I counted 4 in an hour (is that a lot?). My whole belly tightens - they don't "hurt" but they're uncomfortable.

On a side but (maybe) related note: at about noon today I found out my grandma passed away. So extremely sad about this... (tear)

It occurred to me that maybe they could be related? stress? My LO increase in activity has been consistent (before I knew about gma) and the BH increases started about 2-3 pm...

Any similar experiences? Is it ok to wait until tomorrow to call?

I wouldn't be concerned about TOO much movement... However, it's the general rule of thumb to call your Dr if you have more than 4-5 contractions within 1 hour.

I would try laying down, drink some water, & see if they go away. If you are still experiencing that many contractions, call your Dr right away.

Sorry to hear about your grandma.

  • I just asked my OB about the correlation between BH and movement. He said that the BH do cause increased movement but that doesn't mean the baby is under stress. Just chug water and lay down for a while. Hopefully that will calm your uterus down. I'm sorry about your grandma...
  • I am very sorry for your loss :(

Lots of movement and BH contractions are pretty normal. I have between 2-6 per hour...all day long. I have been since around 27 weeks and my doc is not concerned. She said to call if I have 8+ in an hour time frame or if they are coming in a timeable pattern. I pay attention to them, but so far, nothing to be concerned over. They told me if I have two close together to empty my bladder, drink a tall glass of water (should also be getting a minimum of 2 liters/day) and to lay on my side. That usually always calms them down a bit. I notice they pick up a ton during the evening, and I take that as my cue to relax and lay back :)

Definitely don't hesitate to call your doc if you're concerned though!

I could have written this myself.  Saturday I was on my feet teaching kids riding lessons for probably 7 hours.  Saturday night I had tons of increased movement and all day Sunday too.   By 3:00 am Monday morning I was having 4 BH an hour.  Baby hadn't stopped moving in hours and I figured the BH were related.  I called the Dr. this morning and they had me coming and put the fetal HR monitor on me and I talked to them about this.  I was told that my BH would increase as I got further along and to up my water intake to 12 8 oz glasses per day.  With the increased pressure on the pelvis and being on my feet all day, coupled with the increased movement = BH.  Instead of going back to work I worked from home the rest of the day and within hours they subsided (I have had 2 since noon).

So just give your doc a call in the morning, I am sure they will have you come in but just know you aren't alone and I am sure everything is fine. I just learned that it is probably time for me to cut back a little bit and rest some more.

  • Stress didn't affect me in that way, I did not go into labor with DS after my mom passed when I was 34 weeks pregnant.

Try and keep your movement to a minimum and drink water and see if it slows down, and calling your OB's office in the Am won't hurt.

Sorry to hear about your loss : (

  • Sorry to hear about your loss too MommySteph...

And thanks for the good advice and kind words - I knew I could count on you all for tips/tricks.

  • Here's a me too! I've been getting BH for about a month now and they've only increased in frequency. Dr said it's very common for women who are pregnant and working. His only concern is if they become actual contractions and are close together. On Saturday, LO was going crazy with movement, which is also very unlike him. Then the BH picked up as well. Called the DR, he told me again that it's normal. Said to drink plenty of fluids, try laying on my left side, if that doesn't work, get up and walk around, that may also help.
