I wouldn't. DS is pretty good in restaurants, but on the off chance he gets rowdy, I don't want to ruin my meal or anyone else's. It's a date/special occasion place for most people so the tolerance for a child is very low.
I may be in the minority, but I would take my baby anywhere if I think they could handle it. We used a binky and kept LO in a stroller/car seat for many dinners out. Now with a highchair, it's more challenging, but our LO can handle and focuses on dinner.
It's a Monday night tomorrow, i'm sure no one would complain and of course babies are allowed.
Sorry, rude. The people going there are not going to expect a baby to be there and even the best child can freak out, make a mess, etc. I'm not a fan of taking Aiden any place where there isn't a kid's menu, kwim?
I was visiting my sister-in-law and took her out for her b-day. She picked a 5 star restaurant, valet parking and everything. I was really nervous when I realized exactly how nice it was, but we had a good time. We got some looks going in, but he was a peach and we had a great meal.
If he's a good kid and in a good mood I don't see a problem.
I wouldn't take my LO. Get a sitter and enjoy your night out together.
I agree with this. It's your special night and I can understand wanting to be with the baby but I would get a sitter. Especially for a nice place like that. I agree that if there is no kids menu, kids probably shouldn't be there.
I think it's inapprorpiate. Nothing ticks me off more when someone brings their kids to a nice restaurant. A lot of people there not only are paying good money for a nice night, but a lot are likely paying a babysitter so that they can have a kid free night. Do yourself a favor and get a babysitter yourself and enjoy your anniversary and spare the other patrons. Even if LO is a perfect angel, I still don't think it's appropriate.

this.
we LOVE ruth chris and go there often and have never seen a baby there. we wouldn't even consider taking ours and we go out to eat at least 2x a week.
but that could also be because i wouldn't want anything interrupting my delicious steak :P
eta: if you went like right when they opened i wouldn't think it's weird (we do this for certain places) but if you went at dinner time then i would say no.
in general, i agree with PP: no kids menu, don't bring kids. But we brought DD to Ruth's Chris during a prix fix menu week when she was around 4 months old. It was a lot of work keeping her quiet and happy, and I would NOT do it again. I have to add that we were not the only people with kids. Maybe it was just that location?
Besides, it's your anniversary! Get a sitter and enjoy each others company!
I think that as long as your LO does well in restaurants and doesn't make too much noise it's fine.
I wouldn't even bring a 5 year old there. To me, a place lie that simply isn't approriate for kids.
If they don't offer a kids menu, chances are, kids shouldn't be there.
But what if they have highchairs? I was at PF Changs with MIL, DH, and DD the other day and didn't see a kids menu. But it was like 4:30 PM. Where do I fall in this spectrum?

1. Cheesecake and PF CHangs have a kids menu.
2. There is a big difference between PF Changs/ CHeesecake Facrtory and Ruth Chris Steakhouse.
3. Even if a place like Ruth Chris has one or two high chairs, chances are they are just there in case someone happens to be rude and bring their kid. It still doesn't make it appropriate.
Ruth Chris has linen table cloths, water goblets and someone that sweeps your bread crumbs with a little silver thing away from you. I have never seen that happen at Cheesecake or PF Changs
Also, we all wanted to enjoy the night out together. With DD. Eating PF Changs. We should all suppress that desire because you care what's happening at my table? Stop eavesdropping and rubbernecking and chill the eff out.
I'm assuming that the OP is referring to a similar restaurant as PF Changs because there were people there while we were there in prom attire. At the time we were there. (4:30). But I don't know because I've never heard of it.
ETA: never mind, didn't see PP. Sorry, didn't mean to be rude.
But still, those high chairs are necessary. Like, what if people were having a funeral dinner there or something. And if it were my family, my MIL would REQUIRE that DD be there. Like, there would be hell to pay if she weren't, depending on who it were for. (I'm not trying to be morbid, just give an example).

I think you are pulling at straws... the point is, on a normal night, at dinner time, having a 1 year old there isn't appropriate.
I'm generally a "what the heck, bring your kid" kinda gal, but I would hesitate at Ruth's Chris. It may not be High Tea at the Savoy, but it is a nice restaraunt. I don't hesitate to bring my kids to Cheesecake Factory and PF Changs, but I wouldn't to Ruth's Chris.

I would not hesitate to take both my LOs to Ruth Chris. Since when did this restaurant become the Holy Grail of steak restaurants. During the week it's mostly business related dinners anyhow.
Maybe call ahead and ask for a table that would be kid friendly (in a corner, etc).
Ruth's Chris is now considered fine dining? LOL!!! Unlesss your kid is going to scream and stab the waiters, I think you will be able to enjoy your meal.
Ruth's Chris is fine dining? LOL!!! For reals?
Also, you people realize that place is an overpriced Longhorn /Outback Steakhouse, right? The fvcking linen napkins are just there to fool you.
Babies are fine there. You guys are silly.
Right? Lord in heaven, y'all act like just because they're scamming you out of your money by having gimmicky crumb sweepers and a glorified, unoriginal menu, that's some sort of excuse to treat mothers and their children like second-class citizens.
I'm not trying to offend, and this is just my personal view on things, but: Quit acting so fancy. I'm serious. Anyone with true class knows that nowhere is too posh for a child, if the parent has the grace to know when to take the child out for a break if necessary. How else are you supposed to raise them to know what's acceptable in every social situation? I began etiquette training as a southern lady when I turned 3, and I'm thankful for it every day.
Also, for the record: With a few exceptions, kids menus are scams. Not deals. And usually not so healthy, either. Just, you know, statistically speaking.
However- I will say that if I had time to go out with my husband to a restaurant we both enjoyed on a day special to us, I would definitely spring for that sitter. Maybe even an overnight with the grandparents

C'mon people, we are all just commoners:)
Lol. Yes it's mostly business dinners during the week which is exactly why kids don't belong.
And yes. It might not have a Michelin star, but it is, relatively, a nice place where kids to do not belong. And to the poster who thinks its just like outback, check your taste buds. Is it the best steak house in the world? Hellno. But the quality of beef far outshines a crap hole like outback. But that's not even the point.it is not a place for babies even if you do not considerate it fine dinning.
Ruth Chris has linen table cloths, water goblets and someone that sweeps your bread crumbs with a little silver thing away from you. I have never seen that happen at Cheesecake or PF Changs
So does the Chinese restaurant we go to and we don't have to take out a loan to eat there
I wouldn't take my kids. Not because of it being rude but because it's a date night/anniversary. OP, I think your husband is being nice and trying not to tell you he just doesn't want to bring the baby. Get a sitter and enjoy your night.
Yellow, I'd agree wih you if we were talking about a five year old, but we aren't. There is a difference between training a kid old enough to understand and dragging along a baby. I was raised the same way you were and was at fine places at that age. But whether you think it's too "fancy" or not, a baby is simply not appropriate. THAT is the classy thing to do...leave the infant at home.
I think some people need to get over the, selves and realize the world does not, infect, revolve around them and their child. That is not directed at anyone in particular, it's just a statement on the general attitudes in society that their kids belong anywhere and to not include them makes them second class citizens. tHAT is eye roll worthy.
We have taken our 3 yr old and baby to Ruth Chris a few times. I probably wouldn't have chosen to take them there on my own, but my FIL likes to go there for family celebration dinners. It was fine. The waiters were very nice to the kids and I think they might have even had a kids menu too, DS had a cheeseburger. Yes if I had the option of leaving them at home I would have but not always a choice!
We took B there when she was six months old, for a Christmas Eve lunch. We got no odd looks; in fact, people were stopping by the table to coo at her. However, I wouldn't take her there now--she is far too messy.
Also, you people realize that place is an overpriced Longhorn /Outback Steakhouse, right? The fvcking linen napkins are just there to fool you.

Hi! I like you. Yeah, I'd probably bring my baby. I'm a rude biitch. Why is your date night affecting my family night? If I want to waste my money on overpriced raw cow, I will.
While I agree with pp's that if I'm going to spend that kind of money, it's not going to be at a chain restaurant, I still think it's inappropriate to bring a toddler there.
Re: can you take a baby to ruth's chris?
No I would not take my LO there. It is too nice of a place and people pay a lot of money their food.
if i was a patron i would not be happy if a baby showed up there. Part of me woders if they are even aloud there.

as long as your kiddo is quiet when out to eat I'd say it is ok.
Otherwise leave LO at home with a sitter.

It's rude, yeah
And why would you want to? If I was having a nice anniversary dinner out with my husband I don't want to worry about LO the whole time.
If you're going to take baby with you, take it to a family restaurant where it can squeal and toss food and you won't have to be extra vigilant.
