Would you wash stuffed animals?

I'm sorry if this has been brought up, I looked back a couple pages and didn't see anything.

We've recieved a few stuffed animals/cloth toys, just wondering if you would wash them....

Thanks!

Re: Would you wash stuffed animals?

  • Yes I wash new stuffies.  I stick them in a pillow case and run them through the wash.  Then let them air dry.

  • Yes, I washed the ones that we received. I just threw them in the wash (using Dreft) and let them air dry

Ok I think I'll use your idea (pillow case, air dry).  I mean it can't hurt.  Thanks!

  • If they seem like they'll fall apart going through a wash cycle, putting them in the dryer in a pillowcase with a damp towel can help break down any residues from being in the store.

FYI - this can also freshen dry-clean only clothing, if you didn't already know!

  • I washed mine with her clothes as I was doing them.  No pillow case, but did let them air dry.  So in case one falls out you won't have to feel bad.

  • I always wash stuffed animals in a pillowcase as well.  They always come out fine.

  • I think I'm going to. I have these mesh laundry bags for delicates. I'm going to put them in there and wash them.

I'm glad to hear the two previous PPs said they never washed them. I don't see myself washing them....and I was starting to think I was a terrible mom.

  • I have the Shark Press & Refresh - which I love and use for lots of things. Maybe i'll run that over them a few times? Or just throw them in the dryer. I don't see myself washing them either.

  • I wash my kids stuffed animals all the time. The baby has only gotten a couple of stuffies and I haven't washed those.

I dry them in the dryer though, for as long as I can. Air drying seems like it might cause mold inside? Maybe I'm just paranoid.

  • I haven't really thought about it, but ultimately they'll get washed at some point so I guess no reason not to wash them in advance.  They'll get dropped on the ground, drooled on, etc. (My kitties love stuffed animals and I wash theirs because they get all gross otherwise.)
  • I washed our LO in a mesh laundry bag and I put them in the dryer for the full cycle, they always come out fine and fluffy!
