We're exploring options for DD #3. Both DH and I like unusual names. DD#1 is Gloria and DD#2 is Lorelei. Some names we're considering are:
Poppy
Josephine
Amaris
Liat
Orli
Gefion
MN has yet to be determined (only serious runner so far is Kathleen after MIL). Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Re: opinions on unusual girl names
Poppy - Very cute, though I don't know how well women grow into it.
Josephine - Adore. Very versatile, classic, but quirky.
Amaris - I don't even know how you would pronounce this
Liat - Meh. Not a huge fan, and definitely not if you're not Jewish.
Orli - See "Liat."
Gefion - Unless she was born in Middle Earth, then no.
What the heck is Gefion? How do you even pronounce that?
I like Josephine and I think it goes well with the names of your DDs.
I like Poppy. Josephine seems outdated. Amaris is something my husband loves, but its NMS. Liat is unusual, and I kinda like that. Orli reminds me of something I would hear on a dwarf in LOTR, and Gefion is too masculine-like.
Good luck! I'm sure something will be just right for you!
I like Josephine and Amaris. I think either would go well with your other DDs names. I like Poppy as a NN for Penelope or Persephone.
I think the other three are a little too unusual, People won't know how to pronounce or spell them. And there are much more "out there" than Gloria or Lorelei.
Poppy-
I hate this name more than any other I think. I just can't visualize a 40-year-old woman going by Poppy. IMO it is not the name of a professional if that makes sense. It does not sound "smart" to me..... Penelope with the nickname Poppy (for when she is young) is better IMO
Josephine- Love!
Amaris- don't mind it
Liat-
Orli- I like this one
Gefion- ???
Lost Lilah (Audra's twin) at 26 weeks. Cause unknown. Forever in our hearts
I like Josephine, Poppy, and Amaris in that order. Some others:
Amalia, Arden, Aralyn, Leona, Avona, Carys, Willa, Wilhelmina, Arabella, Mira, Havana, Beatrix, Juniper, Carina
LOVE Poppy and Josephine.
I don't like the rest.
Thanks for the suggestions. We're trying to avoid names ending in "a" since our LN does.
Poppy- Cute. Not my style, but still cute
Josephine- I like this, but not with Kathleen, rhymes to much.
Amaris- I love the meaning of this name, but how is it pronounced? (I would hate mistakenly call a kid Amorous when it's Ah-mar-IS or something like that)
Liat
Orli
Gefion
I don't much care for the other three, sorry.
Poppy
Not all that uncommon in the naming world right now. I like it, but it seems childish to me as a stand alone name. Despite my love of the BBC and many things British, I'm not such a nickname-as-a-stand-alone-name fan.Josephine
I think this goes well with your other children's name. I don't consider it too out there - it's just an older name, similar to Gloria. It's easy to say, spell and it's obviously feminine, so I would rank this one pretty high on the list - looks lovely as a sibset - Gloria, Lorelei and Josephine - all three names are three syllables, begin with a consonant and end with a vowel. Very subtle, but nice.Amaris
I don't know much about this name (I'd love a link anyone), but I kind of like it - it's a lesser-used A name to be sure, and reminds me of the Latin roots for words that involve 'love'.Liat
- Pronounced Lee-Aht, this name would sounce excellent with a delicate T sound (what I imagine French pronunciation would be like, despite having only two years of HS French and no experience). I say it with my plain, old PNW accent, and it doesn't sound that great. I like the double vowel - Gloria and Lorelei have vowel combos and an L, so again - subtle theme.Orli
cool meaning, but since it can be made out of the name, Lorelei, I'd skip it - I have a thing about that. Plus it sounds like a masculine nick name to me...oh, and the IM short form for 'oh really'Gefion
Am I pronouncing this right? GEF EE ON? Different, and defintely not something I've seen here before - has the three syllable and double vowels your other two children have. It's a bit too new for me to make up my mind. I'd say the only turn off I have is the G. I love the letter, G, but Gloria already has a G (another of my hang ups)Heavens to Murgatroyd Blog

I like Poppy, but I prefer it as a nn rather than a full name. Josephine is lovely, but I think it's awkward with Kathleen. The others I don't care for at all.
Suggestions to go with Gloria and Lorelei:
Penelope, Bronwyn, Daisy, Isadora, Hazel, Miriam, Phoebe, Selma, Sabrina, Tabitha, Matilda, Vera
Poppy- doesn't transition well into adulthood. What about Piper?
Josephine- not bad, I like the nickname Josie
Amaris- all right, nms, but not awful
Liat- awful
Orli- even more awful (like, are you joking?)
Gefion- most awful
(read it. you know you want to.)

Havana is really making it as a first name status these days? I know the city is named after a legendary indigenous woman, but still, I don't think I can get behind this one.
In any event, to OP- I ditto the poster who said I wouldn't use Liat or Orli unless you were Jewish or Israeli. Amaris and Josephine are both lovely and Poppy would work as a nn for a longer name.
Honestly, I dont like any of them.
I went to school with a girl named Amaris. She pronounced it uh-MAR-is, but was always corrected everyone because they said it uh-MARE-is. Just sayin'....
Amaris is a nasal spray first of all. The only one of your other choices that I like is Josephine the rest are bad.
Polly
Pearl
Lael all sound nice with Kathleen (which I love)
I like Josephine & Orli the rest are NMS

Love Josephine! And I think it would go well with your other 2 girls.
I strongly dislike your other choices. Sorry.
Thank goodness I missed that one. I like your answer. Beautiful city, but nothing like Hollywood portrays.
Poppy and Josephine are ok. The others are nms.
Oh, I like Kathleen in the mn spot.
Personally I LOVE LOVE LOVE Liat and Orli(y) but I am Jewish and my family is from Israel and since these names are both super Jewish and super Israeli I'm used to them. They are both very popular is Jewish/Israeli circles.
If you're neither Jewish or Israeli, they are weird choices for you.
Out of your other choices I like Poppy as a middle name and I guess Josephine for a first name. The others are totally nms.
Poppy -very cute but too nicknamey
Josephine -my pick, it goes best with gloria and lorelei
Amaris -cute but doesn't go with your daughters' names imo
Liat -
Orli -
Gefion -maybe i'm just ignorant but i've never heard this and i think people would have issues with pronunciation
i would go with josephine but then that means you wouldn't want to use kathleen [too similar] as a mn. maybe josephine katherine? or you could just go with kathleen and choose another mn. i personally love kathleen.
also, you might consider helena.
Poppy
Josephine
Amaris
Liat
Orli
Gefion
