brownish discharge after bowel mvmt

I know the brown discharge is not from poop. I assume it's because of pushing.

I'm waiting for the nurse to call me back. Is this normal?

    I'd say so...it's not uncommon for your cervix to become "sensitive" and straining too much can cause irritation/slight bleeding.  As long as it's not like you're hemmorreging, and it's brown I wouldn't worry.

    Yep, this has happened to me a few times.  The DR has me taking Miralax a few times a week to prevent any straining.
