I will never let our family turn into a "loud" family. My dad is from NY, my mom is from NJ, and there was a lot of yelling at our house. If we were in trouble, if they needed to find us, if we were all at the dinner table. I never realized how loud we were till I moved out of the house and came back for the first winter break during college. WOW.... that's all I have to say.
I will never share disgusting pictures of my child with food all over his or her face. Those pictures always gross me out. I hope I won't take the pictures at all, but I can't make any promises.

let my child scream in a public place for no reason and do nothing about it! (I'm not talking about crying either, I mean just screaming for the sake of hearing themselves scream! My SIL lets my nieces do this all the time. Sad thing is, they aren't babies or toddlers either, one is 4 and the other is 5!)

I will never leave my kid unattended in the car while I run into the store. I see this daily where I work and I just don't understand taking a chance like that.
...my parents never did that

I won't even answer this question, because I've gone back on about 90% of all the things I said I'd never do. lol
This is probably why the best advice I'll have ended-up receiving - the shortest and sweetest - is "never say never when it comes to saying what you will and won't do as a parent."
BUT, before J, there had to be something you swore you never would do even if you've done it now?
Of course there are, but I will never tell :-) There are just so many unknowns, KWIM? Even from kid to kid. What worked for Jack might not work for #2 at all.

Ok, you're totally taking the fun out of my 'crap our parents did to us that we hated and swore we never would do to our own kids but likely will wind up doing anyway' post.

LoL!
Well my grandpa used to send us to the store to get him his Pall Mall cigarettes. I don't smoke so I won't do that :-)

Let my child run around a restaurant laughing and screaming with busy food servers everywhere. I experienced this when I worked in a restaurant in college. I can't tell you how may times a kid almost made me drop trays of food/beer either on them or another table while their parents sat and watched...AND did nothing about it. It drove me crazy!!

Jeez, finally, thank you!
(and holy hell... the good ole' days when they'd sell cigs to an 8 year old and beer to a 12 year old)

seriously, i hate this. FI and i went out to lunch yesterday, and there was a family sitting right by us with a screaming child. they did nothing about it. they just let her scream. i was so annoyed, i begged FI to never let that be us. /:
I've been told never to say never, but I am going to say it anyway. It will be fun to see what I go back on, as I am sure I will!
I will never always be the one to pick up after my child. I NEVER had to clean up after myself, and it took me a lot to learn to keep a clean house, my child will learn froma young age that they need to clean up after themselves.
I will never smoke around my child. -This I will not go back on. I will never allow my child at my mom's house until she quits smoking inside. She thinks I am joking-says she wont do it while we are there, but I want her to take it outside all the time, or better yet quit.
I have a lot of I will never, but not much else that has to do with not doing things my parents did.
His three plus my one; we are all excited to welcome a little one!
i will never raise my child in front of the tv or occupy them all the time with electronics. i wasnt raised like this but i have a 4 year old sister (my parents last ditch effort to have a boy but nope im the oldest of five girls) who they do this too and it drives me insane! she cant even get in the car without DEMANDING a movie on the car dvd player. they even carry a dvd player for when she gets fussy at restaurants. what ever happened to children reading, playing and entertaining themselves. This is definitely something i will not do!

say "because I said so" as the answer to "BUT MOMMM WHHHYYYYYY"
haha- I used to say "because I said so" to my kids at school all the time. Guess I broke that one already.
I've done it a couple times with my SD and after I want to ram my head into the wall because I know how much it use to bother me when my mom would tell me. At this point, I think that every "NO" has a reason and I wanted to know why I wasn't being allowed to do things when I was a kid.. We will see how long this lasts
Re: As a parent, I will never...
lol I bet 90% of us will.

I totally did this yesterday. He had chocolate all over his face, we were posing for a pic....desperate times call for desperate measures!!
I will never allow her to talk with her mouth full of food. YUCK!
I will never let her say "irregardless" or pronounce escape like "xscape".
*ok, my parents never did that
I won't use excessive baby talk but I won't talk to my toddler like she's an adult and try to reason with her.
Touche.

I will use this one too. I don't think we have to reason with our children or provide explanations to them. Sometimes it's just "because I said so".
when I saw the title of this post I thought when I opened it that it would state the above....
I too hated the spit thing! but am sure that I will do.
