My DD just turned 1. (She is not in daycare right now, but is home with me full-time, while I look for a new job, it's going on 2 months of me being unemployed.)
She asks to nurse (does the sign for "milk") about a million times per day! She will just nurse for 3-4 minutes, but if I don't give in, she throws a fit! I am happy to nurse her for as long as she wants, but I'd be happier if she only nursed 4-5 times per day.
She'll ask to nurse 30 minutes after her last session, even! I try to distract her with a sippy of water, a snack, or a toy, etc, but it usually doesn't work.
Any advice/suggestions? Is this a phase she's going through? I wondered if maybe it was just the novelty of being home with me FT, as compared to when I was working and she was in daycare, but it hasn't seemed to taper off.
Re: 1yr old asking to nurse 8+ times per day???
It's probably a little early to introduce the concept of delayed gratification, but I agree with trying to distract her. She may be enjoying the concept of demand/supply and mastering her universe. I have the same problem in the evenings when we get home from work/daycare. She is tired and wants to nurse 3-4 times. DD taps on my chest, nods her head and goes "mumm." It's ridiculously cute, so hard to deny. But, I have DH take her outside and away from me. Or I give her a slice of cheese or something.
But like most phases, this too shall pass. So, if you feel more comfortable giving in, I don't think you're doing any damage.
