Frustrated, EBF schedules?

I wish DH understood how EBFing DD is different than feeding the dog.

Does anyone here have a 1-2 month old on a solid daily feeding/sleeping schedule? I didn't have any ammo tonight when DH asked me why it would be so hard. He seems to believe THAT is why she is cranky before bedtime.

  • No schedule till about 4 months.  These first months are survival.  A lot of kids have a witching hour at night.  DS1's was from 4-9pm.  At 3 months he turned into a whole new baby and it ended.  At 4 months my kids started eating every 3 hours and got pretty consistent about it.

  • My LO had a pretty regular feeding and night sleep schedule at that point, but naps didn't really normalize till about 4-5 months.

At 1 month old she was eating 7 times a day. Every 3 hours during the day beginning at about 8 am with the last feeding of the day at 11pm, and a night feeding at 3am. It took about 45 minutes to do both sides and a diaper change at that point, so it was literally a full time job just feeding her (I spent about 6 hours a day feeding her, it takes me about 30 second to feed my dog!)

The first feeding she dropped was the 11pm one around 2 months (bedtime became 8ish) and then she dropped the 3am feeding around 4-5 months and started sleeping 8pm-7am. Now (at almost 6 months) she eats 5 times a day and it takes about 20 minutes to do both sides and a diaper change, so total about 1.5 hours a day. It does get easier, I promise, but it is still much quicker to feed my dog! :)

ETA: She's still cranky at bedtime too, I think that's a very normal thing!

  • No. We still don't really have a "schedule". It's more of a routine. He does pretty well to eat every 3 hours then he eats every 2-2.5 hours in the evening before bed.

He has found a pretty good rhythm, but he changes it on us just when we think we've nailed something Big Smile

  • DD is always cranky before bed, but its a baby thing.  She also doesnt even have a bedtime sched for me, let alone a feeding one.  She changes routine as often as diapers

  • DD is almost 6mos old and we still don't have a schedule.  Most of the time we have a routine but she changes it often.  She did start STTN (8hrs) at 1mos but then around 5mos it turned into a hit and miss process.  I haven't even tried to get her on a schedule.  I figure if we eat and sleep when we need to (or at least try) then she should be able to do the same.  Of course, DH and I really aren't on a consistent schedule ourselves so it would be crazy to expect a baby to follow one.

Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!

  • No schedule here, but I don't really expect him to be on one.  We EBF on demand and goes down for a nap when he's tired.  Works for us.

Try as your DH might, babies make their own schedules no matter what you do.  Tell him I said good luck with that ;)

  • I have a 6 week old.  He gets fed when he's hungry, which is a different schedule every day.
