2nd Trimester

17 Weeks and Taking Unisom to sleep.

I've been dealing with insomnia my whole life, and now that i'm pregnant and off my normal medications, (Xanax, Zoloft) I've been having a really hard time sleeping. My OB suggested I take Unisom to sleep. I noticed that when I take it, It make me feel jittery, Is that normal? and if so does that feeling go away after taking it for awhile?

Any help would be appreciated, I as of now have been awake since 3 am. And have gotten about 8 hours of sleep in 2 days. Thanks!

Re: 17 Weeks and Taking Unisom to sleep.

  • Ya it should go away, I take Tylenol PM every night- but I need the bit of Tylenol to help with the constant back/hip pains. If it doesn't go away, in a few days you should bring it up with your Dr. you might be sensitive to the Diphenhydramine. Unisom never really works right for me, you can try switching to Tylenol PM, or Benadryl... Same stuff but maybe you will have better results

    Good luck with it

  • I have the hardest time sleeping as well.  I have taken Tylenol PM almost every night this pregnancy.  My doctor also gave me Ambien to take if it really gets hard to sleep.

Unisom kinda makes me feel loopy and a bit hungover in the morning and Ambien doesn't let me wake up to pee so I am DYING when I wake up, lol.
