Baby measuring ahead - anyone have this issue?

I had my dr's appt. today and the baby is measuring way ahead (5 weeks) YIKES!

The dr. didn't seem too concerned but wants me to go in for an u/s on Wed. She's never measured ahead (more than a couple of days in the u/s). So this has happened in the last 4 weeks.  I have only gained 8 lbs. in 27 weeks and my blood panel from the diabetes test came back normal. I'm at a loss.  Anyone had this happen?

I'm also kind of freaked out.

Also, talked to the dr about the issues from last weekend and he asked me to let him know if it happens again.

  • With my DD i was measuring right on track until 7 month when i POPPED & then i started to measure like 2-3 week ahead!

I was Heavy to begin with so once i popped i was huge!

  • SIL was just telling me today that a friend of hers, EDD was May 10 just like her. Well, SIL's friend had her baby on Monday! Woah! The baby weighed healthy as well.

She probably just had a growth spurt. Could explain your feelings last weekend.

  • DS measured ahead, but I am not sure that much.  DS # 2 is measuring a week ahead now (EDD 7/4)

Sounds like all is normal, just a growth spurt

  • ok, so the one thing that freaks me out is that she'll be here early. I'm not ready for her to be here so early - heck, the shower is not until May 15th at 33 weeks.  I know I don't have control over it and I just need to wait until Wed. for our u/s to see what's going on.

At our anatomy scan (7 weeks ago) she was only measuring 3 days ahead.

Just because she's measuring ahead doesn't mean she'll be here early.  Since you had an early u/s, there's no reason to think that the date should change.  I don't know about u/s at 29 weeks, but 3rd trimester ones can be notoriously off.  Since you don't have GD, I wouldn't worry about it.  Even if she's big, delivery isn't a problem.  I saw an 11lb baby born vaginally to a mom who wasn't medicated and only had a 1st degree tear.
  • Thank you Teri for responding!! This makes me feel better. I'll be 28 weeks at the time of the u/s.

  • With Garrison they said he measuring 3 weeks ahead.  They thought he was at least 10 pounds.  He was 8lb 9oz.  They were wrong.  Then with Gavin they said oh he's much smaller than big brother kept guessing he'd be 7 pounds.  He was 9lb. 12 oz.  I think they further along you get the more off the measurements can be.
