Zithromax = nightmares?

DS started Zithromax on Monday for an ear infection. He has been losing his little mind at the thoughts of bedtime! Seriously, starting at 6pm he starts wimpering and getting super clingy. I thought this could be from the ear infection and getting worse with nighttime. He cries through bathtime (which normally he loves) and just as he calms for reading books, he starts up again. Once he is asleep he will wake in a cold sweat, shaking and screaming. I feel SO bad.

Do you think this could be from the zithromax, advil or ear infection? DH and I do not do well with medication so I wonder if it is a similar reaction.

Any experience?

Re: Zithromax = nightmares?

  • DD was on amoxicillin and was a maniac while on it. Wouldn't sleep and going a mile a minute. She returned to her sweet self the morning after her last dose. I think it may have been the red dye making her go crazy. Is the zithromax flavored and colored? Her pediatrician suggested the motrin did it to her, but she has taken that before with no issues. He said it can cause a paradoxical reaction in some kids. So it could be any of the three things you mentioned (pain in ear infection is worse when laying down, so causing issues at night is reasonable). Hope it stops when the Meds are gone!
