Not to alarm you, but I don't think they should have sent you home. This happened to my SIL and she was on complete Hospitalized bedrest from 18 weeks until she delivered her micro-preemie at 24 weeks. He weighed 1 lb. The good news is he's now a perfectly healthy 3 year old boy...
Unless this is MUD, which I hope its not - you should be in the hospital. My SIL wasn't even allowed to sit up, she had to lay completely flat for weeks...

Yeah, I was really surprised when they said they were discharging me...especially after being there 5 hours. I asked about it, and she said that I may as well go home for bedrest where I will be more comfortable. Although, I may be admitted tomorrow when I go see the other doctor. I was also really surprised, after doing some research when I got home, that they did not give me any antibiotics. I hope they know what they're doing. I am so scared.
Thank you everyone for the thoughts and prayers. I truly appreciate it.

Is there another doctor or hospital that you could call to get a second opinion. I wouldn't want to take any chances that they weren't doing everything in their power to at least get you and the baby to 24 weeks! Big hugs!

Just try to relax and take it easy. I believe you should still be in the hospital. I think that they can put warm sterile water in you so the baby has some fluid to be in, and yes, you should be on an antibiotic to prevent infection. I also hope they know what they are doing. If you have any doubt about anything you should head back up and be readmitted to the hospital.
I'm so sorry you are going through this. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Please let us know when you have more information. Good Luck to you and your LO.
I am 19 weeks today, and my water broke very early this morning. I was lying in bed having really sharp contraction-type pains, and all of a sudden, there was a huge gush. I rushed to the bathroom and it continued. I immediately called my doctor, and she told me to come to the hospital. The ultrasound confirmed that my water broke, and there was no amniotic fluid around the baby. However, the baby's heartbeat was good. I'm so scared worried nervous. After 5 hours in the hospital, they sent me home for complete bed rest, but I am going to see a specialist tomorrow for more tests.
I hope for the best for you and your baby.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I will be praying hard for you and your LO. I know you must be so scared, but please know that you have lots of thoughts and prayers coming your way!

I was also thinking this because my water broke at 23 weeks with twins, and I was not aloud to leave L&D, due to risk of infection in the cervix. I lost my twins because most doctors will monitor you for infection now that the cervix was open.
I'm so sorry. My water broke with my last pregnancy at 18w5d. I was able to hold out until 19w3d before I went into labor. I was told that the majority of women would deliver within 24 hours, and of those that didn't most would go within 72. If you can make it past 72, there's just as good of a chance that you could go a full 6 or more weeks without delivering! They admitted me to the hospital on IV antibiotics for the first 48 hours, then sent me home on bedrest. If I had made it to 24 weeks without going into labor I would have been re-admitted to the hospital.
My whole story is in my loss blog (info about the water breaking, etc, not just about the loss, which doesn't happen to everyone in this situation).
I did a ton of research while I was at home on bedrest and have a lot of info gathered up. PM me if you want to chat, or my email is largirl at yahoo dot com. But right now, drink tons of water - your sac can reseal and the waters can replenish - drink lots of 100% pure cranberry juice - and lots of garlicy foods (both cranberry and garlic are natural antibacterials). Take Vitamin C, E, and zinc. Change your underwear all the time to avoid fecal contamination (sounds gross but *everyone* has poop residue on their underwear) and use those anti-bacterial non-scented wipes every time you go to the bathroom. In fact, I have a package of disposable mesh underwear (still sealed) so I could change and throw away underwear at every bowel movement - I'm happy to send them on to you if you want. I wore a pad that I changed often so I could see if I was leaking.
Check out this website for more information, I got TONS of information there and it was the greatest resource:
Good luck! Every day you don't deliver is a huge step.
P.S. If the worst happens (please god don't let it), I do recommend seeing your baby. I can tell you Caleb was adorable, and I'm so glad I got to spend time with him (he was born alive).
Is there anything that the doctors or research show that leads up to this. About the same time I found out I was pregnant this happened to my husbands cousin and ex-gf. I'm just curious. I wasn't aware of how "common" this was. She said she felt nothing before this happened and she was 19 wks as well. I was just curious. As for the poster. I'm sorry to hear that this has happened and will be thinking of you. I will be keeping high hopes for you, your LO and family!!
I think its great that you've done research on an issue that is near and dear to your heart. At the same time, my SIL had a successful (her LO spent 3 months in the NICU, so success is relative) delivery after hospitalized bedrest. She was extremely lucky, regardless. But the fact remains that she was hospitalized, monitored for fluid count (which hovered in the single digits for the entire time she was there), and came out on the other end with a live birth. I think this girl should fight for the care that might get the best results. That's what I would do.
