Both of my girls will be referred to a specialist if they do not improve/get worse at their 4 month appointment Also, is it normal to wait until 4 months?
Only one of my girls wore a helmet. The first night she had to wear it to sleep was not a good night but after that, she didnt even notice it. She wore it for 5 mths and it made a huge difference.
She didnt start wearing it until 5mths. And I really believe I could see a difference very quickly.
Like everything else, it is harder on your than it will be on them

My Lilly started wearing hers at 10 months and only wore it for a little over 10 weeks. We got really luck and caught a few really good growth spurts. She didn't mind it much at all.
It didn't faze our boys at all. They started wearing them and slept fine. The first night my really good sleeper woke up about an hour early, but it was because he was so hot!
We started right around five months and I'm not sure how long they'll have to wear them. I'm seeing great results so far. I'm hoping we catch some good growth spurts as well.
I was really upset when I noticed the flat spots at two months. At four months I had just accepted it and wanted to get the helmets on as quickly as possible to try to get them off before the summer.
My DD has had her's since Friday and the only thing she doesn't like about it so far is the taking it on and off and I am pretty sure that is my fault. She got used to it fairly quickly.
The specialist is estimating about 2-4 months and she should be good to go.
We started looking into it around her 3 month appointment, started PT shortly after and she was checked out by an OMT specialist who ended up writing the scrip for the helmet. After all the appointments, measurements, castings etc she is now 7 months and hopefully we won't have too much longer
From what I was told, they like to get them into the helmet before 8 months gestational age so they hit some good growth spurts.
HTH Good luck!

My LO didn't mind it at all. Honestly, he noticed it more when it was off (when it was off he kept pulling at his hair). I thought it would bother him the first night but it didn't.
He wore it for 3 months (from 6 months to 9 months).
He was referred by pedi at his 4 month appt (which was closer to 5 months). By the time we got the appt and had his helmet made, he was 6 months old.
