Trying to Get Pregnant

Coming off BC ? Ovulating?

I stopped taking BC a few months back and have been charting each month.  I have followed all the major signs (BBT, Cervical Fluid, LH Surge, etc.) and I have determined my luteal phase is exactly 14 days and I THINK I ovulate on day 17 or 18.  I have read that when you come off of BC, you can have your period every month but could not be ovulating.  Is there a way to know that you are ovulating for sure?

  • Hey everyone - just to clarify, I am already charting.

Is it a myth then, that you you can have your period without ovulating?

I was hoping to figure out that even if your chart makes it seem like you should have ovulated, hence had your period, that you could have not ovulated - how do you know?

Not a myth, just an anovulatory cycle.  Chart your BBTs, and it will confirm if/when you O.  If you're charting, I'm not sure why you wouldn't know that.

  • Clearly I am new to this... that is why I was asking the question.  I apologize if I annoyed you by asking the question - I have just read a lot of articles about coming off BC for awhile now and no where has to made it clear how one could tell... even when fertilityfriend.com gives you a solid red line...I read 'Taking Charge of your Fertility' and it just made reference to a cycle where it could happen... just looking to knowledge share with others that understand, not be looked down upon for trying to learn more about this as a newbie

If you are taking your temps and it gives you CHs (the solid red line) then that is your sign that you ovulated.  If you didn't, and had an annov cycle, you would get no CHs.  The ONLY other way to tell if you O'd or not would be to have an ultrasound done.

Charting temps will confirm that you O'ed.  Using OPKs are predictive in nature and will tell you when to have sex.  Apps like My Days will only mark on a calendar when you got your period retrospectively and aren't good for much else.  GL

  • You can start ovulating right away when off BC. From what I've read it's a myth that it takes 3 months to "get it out of your system." I think the biggest problem is knowing WHEN you ovulate, because your cycles can be messed up. My first cycle after BC was a perfect 28 days, the second was 42 days. So it is really important to chart. (and do it EOD Big Smile )
