NCDR: Nursing Pad Recs?

I saw a post on here a while back about reusable nursing pads, but I haven't been able to find it.  Any recommendations (or brands to avoid)?

I'm interested in the LANA wool pads; if you used these, did you order the ekstra absorbency or just the regular?

  • I didn't use reusable ones, but I loved the Johnson and Johnson ones. They are so soft! Compared to the Lansinoh and Medela ones, they were BY FAR my favorite.

I have these and I *love* them.  I have tried several different kinds of reusable pads and these are by far my favorite.  I have the regular absorbancy.  While BF'ing I am a D cup and I have the size small.  I am so glad I did not size up as they barely fit inside my bracups!  That said, the big size means it covers your entire breast which gives you good coverage without adjusting even when you're side lying nursing AND they don't show through your clothes at all, even with a very thin bra.  I was super skeptical about wool nursing pads but these are super soft and great!

  • If you are a super soaker like me the wool won't work at first. I have wool ones I can wear latter when my let down doent cause a huge amount to leak out. Right now I'm using ones by artsey fartsy foo foo that you can buy from clothdiaperu.com and I still go thru several in a day. I use disposable lanshinoh overnight for now

I think it was your post on the thread a while back that led me to check out LANA!  Thanks for sharing (especially about the sizing; I was debating whether to size up or not!).  I think I'll order some from Cotton Babies to try.  Do you have just two pairs like it suggests, or did you need more?  I'd assume that two pairs would be sufficient with wool pads, unless I end up with heavy leaking issues.

Thanks for this!  I was hoping to buy some from AFFF to try after hearing rave reviews, but I didn't really want to stalk for ages to get them.

  • I love, love, love the kushies reusable nursing pads!! They are so soft and comfy. You don't even feel like you are wearing them. I absolutely hated disposable pads though. I got mine at www.comfybummies.com but I am sure anywhere that sells CDs will sell them.

  • I have a quick question about washing wool nursing pads - do these need to be hand washed/lanolized like a wool diaper cover/longies?  i know not to machine dry anything with PUL - but I've been hesitant to buy anything with wool for nursing because of this.  Also - assuming you wash them each time they are dirty after you wear them or what?

  • NOT baby kicks - they succcck  (for me).  I can use them during the day usually, but definitely not at night...I learned that the messy way!  I have a few pairs of cotton flannel pads from Uddercovers and actually like them a lot.  I also use J&J disposables.

washed mine but didnt lanolize. I stopped using the with DD real early because we got thrush and I think it was from all the moisture there with them

  • I really like the ones I have by Fuzzi Bunz. They're super absorbant, large enough to cover the whole breast area and super soft.

  • i actually only have one pair.  i bought one to try and have been spending too much on diapers and woolies for the kiddo to earmark funds for me to buy more.  LOL.  I just wear my hemp ones when i wash the wool ones.  you do not lanolize wool nursing pads - you dont want them to repel the moisture, you want them to absorb it!  i only wash mine about every two weeks.  also fwiw, even though i have a great milk supply (knock on wood), pre nursing i had a smallish chest (B-cup) so i don't think my letdown is super heavy, relatively speaking.

if i were you i would buy a pair of these and a pair of a few other brands as well to see what works for you.  then buy more of whatever you like!  :)

  • Check out Bamboobies - they make some ultra-thin ones that are good for daytime or date night (or even just going to the store) and ultra thick ones for nighttime.  I read a lot of reviews before buying them and they were right: they're much softer and more comfortable than wool. The thin ones have PUL to stop leaking and you don't have to be careful about how you wash them - mine come out fine whatever I do. And they're cute hearts - colored and just plain cute. You deserve something cute - don't you? I love 'em! and they're having free shipping right now!
